Restaurant Ciao Niki — Restaurant in Bucharest

Old house where hospitality goes to die. The food was not impressive but what bothered me the most was the 1 star service all throughout the visit. I called days ahead asking for a reservation for the weekend, and specifically asked if they had a lot of reservations at lunch time, as I have an anniversary and I want a nice atmosphere, not an empty restaurant. I even mentioned I can switch to dinner if they believed it was a nicer atmosphere. The waiter absolutely assured me TWICE that they had loads of reservations at that time and that it was going to be nice. Fast forward to Saturday (my birthday anniversary), we arrive at the restaurant and surprise: it was completely empty because they had a private event that only started way later, and we were seated in a connected room, which looked nothing like the main restaurant (the beautiful decor that you can see everywhere online). My facial expression was incredibly visibly disappointed and almost crying, but the waiters had nothing to say, only “there is no other option” and “I don’t know what you were told on the phone”. By this point I was in shock by the staff’s careless attitude towards an unsatisfied customer. Also, no help from the staff in picking appetizers and ended up with a table full of avocado plates, because the waiter said the portions were very small and because the menu I had was missing the first pager or it was stuck to the cover. Anyway, we stayed, had lunch, dessert and multiple bottles of prosecco. The food was average at best, the staff was blunt the whole time, and the atmosphere was dead. Before leaving, we stopped for 5 minutes at the entry and made some jokes trying to lighten the mood. Another very unpleasant member of the staff approached us and very rudely asked what we were doing. Terrible experience. Do not recommend. There are hundreds of better places in Bucharest with excellent italian food that you can visit, not this old house where hospitality...

Seriously overpriced and overrated!

Made a reservation for a table for two on the terrace. They showed us to our table (a table for four) which was the farthest table possible, very close to the entrance. Although there were more tables for two available, we were told they were reserved… and my response was “is their reservation better than mine or is it something I’m missing?” Apparently, the other reservations had a priority since my reservation was the last one (?!?) Moving on, Foodwise we had antipasti, a cheese platter. The cheese was good, nothing special about it. For the main course, she ordered seafood pasta. The pasta was a little bit uncooked and the overall flavour was nowhere near our expectations, mediocre. I had the pork ribs with baked potatoes, served with a garlic sauce. The ribs were cooked well, but again, they had almost no flavour at all, nor had the potatoes. In other words, kindly said, mediocre. We both ate half of our dishes and the waiter asked us if everything was alright, if we didn’t like it. We told him the same thing I’m writing in this review. I also told him that maybe our expectations were too high. We even asked if the chef was replaced recently or something.
