I went in yesterday for a blonding service and a haircut. I saw other examples of color services done by staff on their Instagram and I had been looking for a salon in Riyadh that could do a beautiful balayage. When I left the salon, under their lighting and with the stylist insisting on putting waves in my hair for her photos, I was initially pleased with the color, however once I got home and really saw it, I’m unhappy with it. I even told the manager when she came over to me to ask for a google review that i was happy. First, I asked for a balayage. I got highlights. Very basic, very dated and not at all modern highlights. I wanted to be blonde. Overall blonde. Not highlighted. Upon my initial consultation with the stylist, I asked her to make my roots slightly darker and not take the lightener to the root so I can have an easy grow out without needing a constant retouch of my roots. The foil placement was also completely horizontal on my head all around meaning I have huge sheets of very light blonde hidden underneath golden colored blonde highlights (exactly what I didn’t want... I asked for ash) because of the placement but also because the top was not processed as light as the bottom. She should have pulled those foils and allowed the top to become equally light. Also, I have actual stripes of color when I pull my hair away from my face. Tiger stripes. I haven’t seen these since the 90s. The paint between foil color she used was indeed not darker than my natural like I asked, it is lighter and it is very much golden... I wanted ash. I wish I could have seen all of this before I left the salon at dusk under their lights. Today in the daylight I can see it all. I have huge lines of demarcation that looks absolutely awful from the use of permanent color at my roots instead of the translucent shadow root I asked for which would have been easily accomplished using a toner. it looks like a harsh grow out line. Finally, I also had a hair cut. I wanted a graduated a-line bob with texture. I watched her cut and I could tell she was really struggling with this shape. I asked her to make it shorter and she just wasn’t doing what I asked so I resigned to cutting it myself at home where I found I had very large holes in the perimeter of my cut that required a lot of cleanup work and at least 3” of cutting and an hour and a half in my own bathroom fixing a VERY pricey service. I’ll also be fixing my color. If this is what I wanted to do, I wouldn’t have paid the salon 1,245 riyals ($332 US dollars which is TOP DOLLAR pricing in the US for an extremely skilled colorist). I’ll end this with saying i am a licensed American hairstylist and I know good work when I see it. I’m super disappointed in this. looks like I’ll be spending even more money to fix this myself which is what i should have done in the first place. So much...
Read moreI went to the salon to get a facial. Before making the journey, I called ahead to make sure the facial I was looking for was available at their salon. The receptionist told they did. Upon arriving I found out that they didn't. In fact that facial had been discontinued months ago. As disappointed as I was, the therapist was umoved and asked me to try another specialty facial instead. Well, it was nothing to write home about. She didn't know the first thing about doing facials, and did the worst massage ever. It was clear she had no idea how to handle the delicate skin of the face. Absolutely not going back to her! The reason I give five star reviews to this place is because of its five star customer service which I was really impressed with! The therapist seemed unmoved when I told her that giving incorrect information is not right and just shrugged it off by saying sorry. Really? I paid and was getting ready to leave when a lady by the name of Jumana told me that she would be happy to offer me a 25 percent off for next time at their other clinic which pleasantly surprised me. She then took me to their supervisor, Ms. Shireen, who seemed to take customer service very seriously. I was very happy with how she handled things from there on, giving me a free visit to try out one service at their salon. Needless to say, they haven't lost a customer and I am willing to give their salon another go after this. If clients feel valued, they will definitely feel like coming back, even if its just for the customer service! Hopefully this will teach other salons in Riyadh something
UPDATE VISIT:
I visited this salon this week for a haircut with Maysoon. She listened attentively to my needs and explained every bit of the process to me. The lady who blow dried my hair, Rahaf, was a jolly girl who did a great job, and I was very happy with the end result. The supervisor genuinely seemed to care if I was satisfied or not and the place overall has courteous employees. If I had to make a recommendation, it would be improving on the hair wash style and time as it was rushed and totally lacked an essential component of massage during shampooing, and leaving some time for the conditioner to work , which is a norm In salons charging the same amounts as this one. Overall, I’d be...
Read moreThe lady who I was booked with, (maysoon) couldn't understand why I wanted my hair done and we went back and forth for a while for her to actually be convinced that I should get my hair dyed!! (it was a pre booked appointment and they were very busy so I couldn't just go to another stylist) I had my hair ombreyed and highlighted over a year ago by another salon and it had grown out leaving a bit of dye a few inches at the end, I had pictures of my previous hair and I wanted the same thing I had before. But she had so much trouble understanding why I'd want to dye it saying my hair 'looks good the way it is'!!!
In the end she suggested to dye the top half as the bottom had some dye on it still so I agreed, trusting that she was professional and that she would make it look good. Halfway through I noticed that she was only dying the ends, but I wanted my whole head dyed and highlighted not just the end. I mentioned this to her and she said let's dry it and if you don't like it we can change it,. she told another lady to dry my hair, quickly wrote my recipt, and just walked off!! she didn't even give me a mirror to show me the back! She charged me 200 extra to cut my hair, yet it was a lazy trim off the ends when I asked for 'layers' whereas on the price list a trim is only 80 riyals. So i got a trim but payed for a full 'cut' .
Am very disappointed!! My hair is not how I wanted ! I had soo many pictures of how my previous hair was and I knew exactly how I wanted it she just rushed to do 'anything' to my hair just so she could call it a day and didn't pay attention to what I wanted. :( :( Would not recommend this stylist in particular, she had no drive to actually please me, she just took off her uniform after my hair was dried and I felt pressured to say I like it, even though it wasn't what I asked for!
A 'professional' salon should strive to please the paying customer not just to splash a bit of dye on and call it a day! This was very pricey for me to get my hair done and it was one off treat that I can't afford to get done again anytime soon. Very...
