I learned how to ski in Vysoké Tatry when I was five (43 years ago). I remember the season when the lift to Lomnické Sedlo was new. I come back to Slovakia to show my children this mountains. My impression comparing to the time when we were waiting for a half an hour on the lift in - 25°C, is atrocious. Regardless price, organization, snow quality, nr of people... the problem is the owner/operator. Minimum investment and effort maximizing incomes. He self openly states that he love family with children. Their buying (must buy, no other option) full day tickets, makes two rides and go for some overpriced refreshment. He hates skiers that are here for skiing. Their sel/promote 11 slopes that are in fact just 3. The most common one is just split by small islands of trees. Information about temperature doesn't match with the source (giving an impression that the temperature is lower). On their website is the state of lifts not true - when is windy their stop the lift without any prognosis. The Gopass is a tragedy that borders on fraud (if you loose your gopass, buy a new, don't believe the operators. If somebody else will use it YOU will be blocked). The rental service is a joke (tinny rooms with 2nd hand or outdated stuff, not correct adjusted). Their rent my 13 old daughter two left snowboard boots in two different sizes. When I asked if the bindings are compatible with gripwalk boots they had no clue (but it is matter of safety and your insurance). Their promote self as Vysoké Tatry, but this is not true. They do nothing for this region, just damage roads. It is not anymore about relax, fresh air and sport. It is about...
Read moreSlovakia is blessed with incredible natural beauty, and the High Tatra mountains can be easily called crown jewl of Slovakia. However, unfortunately, the open chair cable car attendant who worked there during our visit was extremely rude, impolite, and loud mouth. We had an elderly person with us who was lagging behind due to her age. She was stuck at the barrier gate and the rest 3 of us had to turn back to help her get out of the gate. However, instead of helping or directing us correctly, he was very rudely shouting at all of us on top of his voice in front of all the other tourists who were in the queue. He was more concern about the cable chairs going up empty! Thus, resulting in a very poor customer service experience for us. The entire situation should have been handled more professionally. I have been traveling to many different mountains in europe, namely Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Poland and few others with the elderly people. Unfortunately, it was only here where we were treated very rudely by the cable car and chair operators. My polite suggestion to the high tatra cable car in charge bosses, is to train the attendants working there with good customer service and communication skills and also on how to behave with elderly people who visit there. For now, I belive I won't return to Slovak high Tatras as an international tourist, nor will I recommend this cable car/char/gandola to any international tourist who plan to go there.
5 star to the incredible natural mountains of Slovakia. 1 star to the rude and impolite cable car/open chair/gandola...
Read moreI do not recommend this place. The prices are alpine, but the conditions on the slope are not. I visit this place for the 5th time in my life and each time there are some problems with electricity. I can understand the recurring problems with electricity 20 years ago due to technology, but not today. I hoped they have modernized the infrastructure after 20 years but apparently they did not. Some people had to spent 60 minutes in the gondola waiting for rescue. The top slope is still being served with the ski lift from at least 40 years ago. The slightest wind disables the lift so you need to be really lucky to use it. And the rest of ski slopes are really so so - not worth to visit. Additionally none of the ski slopes is not being prepared properly. I have started to ski early in the morning and I could not see no traces of grooming. And last but not least I was able to ski only for 2 hours as later the ski lift stopped working. There is no refund possible. What they offer is 4 hours ticket to be used in the different timing. But I am not going to return here ever. And I will not gift this ticket to any of my friends as I want to protect them from such a poor...
