Read moreIf you truly want to experience a "vibrant" Metelkova you need to visit on a Friday (or perhaps Saturday) night when the gigs are on at various clubs there. That's when this place normally comes alive with lots of people mingling outside the venues and bars. And that's what this place is really all about. I live in Ljubljana and I've been going to Metelkova for the last 25 or more years (less now obviously since I'm a bit older) and still enjoy it every time. And it hasn't really changed much IMO except that there's more tourists now which is perfectly fine. Some people complain about drug dealers, that part is true I guess, but I don't think the place is less safe than it used to be. Back in the day it was skinheads or even police, now it's something else. It's a squatted alternative cultural center - it's supposed to be edgy - keep that in mind and set your expectations and intentions accordingly. ;)
If you want to visit during the day, sure, have a stroll through the place to check out the art, then combine that with a look around the "new" Metelkova, perhaps visit one of the museums there, and have a nice coffee at SEM in the end. But don't expect shops, souvenir stalls or overly...
