Updated JULY 2024: Tried the place again and while the waiter this time did try his best to speak Slovenian, he insisted that they don't serve kajmak apart of ćevapi, although I had it last time. Very strange as they serve a "young" kajmak in an extra portion of 90g on their menu, and even stranger as I saw a table next to us get it as an extra in its small cup. No idea why he insisted that they don't have it, but strange.
Ćevapi still one of the best ones I had, so left with mixed feelings once again.
MAY 2024: Food is good and at a decent price, environment very authentic and the waiters are nice. Čevapi with kajmak are great and I look forward to come back.
BUT management must train their staff to speak Slovenian as this is the country they are in. At minimum, they should ask guests if they mind if they speak in Bosnian, but I find it very rude to just continue in Bosnian language, despite guests speaking back in Slovenian.
And no, I don't think this adds to authenticity, at least not without a simple question if guests prefer Slovenian or Bosnian (or whatever other language). I myself am of a Bosnian origin, so this comment is not coming from a place of hate or xenophobia.
Other than that, the place is really great and I will return. But I definitely think management should be a bit more considerate of the country they are having their business open. Wonder how you would like it if Thai restaurant would talk to...
Read moreI can not belive the reviews other people are giving! Either they've never been to Bosnia or they are completely ignorant. The food I've got was far from authenticity. The meats are grilled on a gas stove, not on a charcoal grill. Fail! The 'Sarajevska pleskavica' which is supposed to be mixed with pices of cheese had, literally (!), two pieces of cheese in it. Prebranac, which is supposed to be a hearty baked beans dish, reminded more on a plain, tasteless 'pasulj' (kind of beans soup). Lepinja bread, that is supposed to be fresh, chewy, warmed up ower the grilling meat, even sprinkled with some broth during the process, was mediocre, pretty much dry. But the biggest disappointment was the 'dolma', meat and rice stuffed vegetables. The dish was stalled, and worst of all, heated up in a microwave oven! The sauce on a plate was boiling around the dried up mashed potatoe lump and when I cut the stuffed paprika in half, it was totally cold in the middle. On top of this, the tomato sauce was bland and tasteless. Even though the restaurant has a picturesque interior and a nice riverside garden, people like me are going to such places to enjoy good food and not the admire the setups. So for me (and quite some colleagues I spoke to), the case is closed. But, never mind, there are masses of tourists, who will fill...
Read moreI hate to give 3 stars, because the food was good, but I have to say that the staff (or at least our waiter) should be more caring and observing. We got food and drinks...I finished my drink and it took some time before I got the waiter´s attention to get another one. After that, we finished our meals and drinks and waited at least 20 minutes without any attention. No one bothered to ask if we want anything else, or to take away the empty glases. The waiter was attending all the tables around and eventually I had to get up and walk to him to ask, if we can pay. I said that the food was good, but that we had to wait for a long time - his resposnse was, that they have a lot of guests. There were like 8 occupied tables outside and he came several times without even looking at our table. I paid and the waiter turned around and left without a single word - something so unprofessional I haven´t seen in my life I believe. Just for such attitude I wouldn´t come next time. Learn some manners and skills, if you are waiter. Especially if you want to be a...
