I have invited my foreign guests to try traditional Slovenian dishes. The restaurant itself was very cold. It seems that they don't want to spend too much money on heating the place in winter. The waitress was very kind and helpful. The service was too slow. The size of portions was very solid, the musroom soup was perfect, I must admit that Ljubljana steak and the roast pork were also delicious. However, I was dissappointed by the cottage cheese rolled dumplings which were dried out and looked as they were one day old. The prices are normal. I gave a bad service mark because the beef goulash was served in a pot that was hanged by a thin chain onto a small metal stander. Of course, while I was trying to sreve the goulash out from the pot onto the plates, the hanger lost balance and the pot fell all over the Ljubljana steak. I have showed the mess to the male waiter and pointed out that the hanging pot just lost balance. The waiter just shrugged like it was my problem. As we had to move to the next meeting; I did not have time to argue or order a new steak, so we have tried to eat the rest of Ljubljana steak as it was. Anyway, I feel that this could have been handled differently and I believe they shall rethink serving dishes in the hanging pot. This time it was pure luck that the goulash spilled into the plate but it could end differently if it would spill on the customers lap and if it would have...
Read moreWe got to this restaurant because it was a recommendation from the apartment we stayed.
Firstly, I’m not sure how a Slovenian food should be tasting like so it’s difficult for me to rate it if you compared the pasta for example with Italian cooking style. If you do that then probably you will be disappointed. My pasta was over cooked and very liquidated but maybe it’s just how Vodnikov Hram would have cooked it and wrote it in his recipe book 🤷🏽♀️ So, you’ll need to check out how Slovenians have their pasta cooked….
The mushroom soup was fantastic and recommended. It’s just perfect! The bread was soft and paired with the soup very well
Vegetarian option is available but not vegan unless you order the sides dishes. I wanted too but the waiter didn’t really liked that and said that’s sides so I ended up with pasta porcini but yea, wasn’t my kinda taste. But perhaps for Slovenian rating is good? I don’t know. I would suggest to avoid pasta and order a typical Slovenian dish instead
My friend order steak but was also just mediocre in rating as medium was more like medium rare and it was also my friends taste bud…. But again we couldn’t judge as this might be just how Vodnikov Hram recipe is? Maybe? 🤷🏽♀️
We didn’t stay long as the service was just ok and the staff wasn’t that friendly but ok. They just...
Read moreI’ve never left a negative (or any) review for a restaurant before, but our experience here merited warning others about this place. IF you have the money to risk an awful experience here, maybe you will walk out having had a 5-star experience like others. But if you’re traveling/visiting and don’t have a big budget, don’t risk coming here to be disappointed.
Maybe it was because we were a larger group, because we were 15 minutes early for our reservation, and/or because we were tourists, but the waiter treated us terribly and was extremely and visibly aggravated by any request we had. Flustered by being asked to suggest his favorite dish, annoyed by splitting checks, being asked to call a cab... very unpleasant server.
The food, though, was truly disappointing. My spouse and I split a Slovenian pasta dish with a creamy truffle sauce.... it tasted like a frozen microwave meal (at best) and was difficult to finish because it was lukewarm, almost cold. My friends parents got a side salad and poured out maybe 150-200ml of water from the bowl. The chanterelle soup another person ate was watery and overpriced. Overall, the quality of food and service during our time there was not remotely...
