Durban Beach Front Promenade — Attraction in eThekwini Ward 27

Very sad news about the closing on 1 st of May 2023!

This was back in the old days along with Newtons, the best places to be during the summer holiday season every year!

Especially by night, a great experience of night lights, humid air, going on the various rides, having fun on the dodgems and playing various games in an enclosed space!

Overall day or night this was certainly the place to have holiday fun!

The cable cars were quite a ride and what views to enjoy especially at night but quite a ride in an open chair!

The magic carpet ride was darn scary as you came out of your seat at the peak of the rides and next door the swings were a rude to just forget all your worries!

Those spinning open car rides were a rough ride but fun and a gravity wheel now gone spun one into the air!

Both the caves of terror and the log fume rides were my favorite dare rides and a fast rollercoaster thing was a thrill but rough!

Now it’s all but gone and very sad Today as I visited a locked up FUNLAND!

What replaces this venerable landmark from next month? Thanks for great times!

I was here today, 20 5 2022 , dismantling and and now one has to accept this situation!

No second chance it’s now all going, going and soon gone! My latest photos really show how very much this iconic place has become a sad and virtually lost once...

I spend a lot of time walking, jogging and cycling here; the seaside location and community presence is splendid. Unfortunately it is marred by an air of dirt, neglect and dilapidation which advances over the years. Uneven paving and manhole covers. Dunes of sand on the paving. Broken fence posts, railings and benches. Abandoned, blighted restaurant buildings stand empty and are an eyesore. Children's paddling pools have not had water in them for years. Filled with litter and windblown sand. Lifeguard stations and buildings facing the promenade in need of maintenence and a facelift. A coat of paint would make an enormous improvement for a small investment. Senseless petty public access closure to the pier at the harbour mouth. It should be open as a charming extension to the promenade walk.

The place has so much potential but as it is it does little to recommend itself, other than to residents who use it because it's...
