The Shark Lab - Mini Aquarium — Attraction in George

It was my daughter's 13th birthday on 27th Dec. My in-laws took them to the aquarium. The father in law asked the lady at the counter whether our 10 year old pays full price. She was not kind about the question at all and virtually shouted at my father in law with an ugly face and bad body language. "What are you saying? Yes!" He was shocked that she could be so ugly just because he asked the question. After she was so rude he decided he will not go in with my mother in law and the kids and asked to rather have his R40 back. The lady then said. "Take your money and go" and gave back all our money and said that my mother in law and kids were not allowed in. She then proceeded to explain to another light skin man how wrong they were, when they actually just asked a question. The man still tried to tell her it was'nt necessary to carry on like that. She just carried on. My in-laws are of colour, and I feel she would not have been so rude if they were white. I am a white male and am disgusted at how cruel this incident was infront of my children, especially on my daughters birthday. I will not recommend this place to anyone and was fuming when I heard of the treatment of my in-laws and children at this establishment. The people are lovely, but unfortunately the shark is a devastatingly tiny cage. There’s o stimulation for it, and I was horrified to see tug it’s been swimming in circles since 2015. The container the shark is kept is less than 4 meters long, and it’s frantic swimming up and down the glass shows its deteriorated mental state. Although this breed of shark does sleep in caves, it also leaves the caves regularly to explore, hunt, and stimulate itself. It would be much more in the sharks interest to get it back in the ocean, even if it gets killed within a day it’s better than living in that ting prison. I hope the owner does the...

My heart broke when I saw how terrible the conditions are for all the marine life at this aquarium. The shark tank is unbelievable small, dark and depressing. The guide also admitted that the shark’s mental state has deteriorated because it is actually a bottom feeder but frantically swims at the top of the tank all day long, which is completely abnormal behaviour.

I don’t like leaving bad reviews but I truly feel like this place should be shut down. Ever since leaving the aquarium I feel disturbed and truly heart sore for the fish that are held captive...
