I thoroughly recommend the Blue Whale Lodge in Mossel Bay, run by hosts Mariki and Reinier Zwiegers. Halfway between Cape town and Port Elizabeth and close to the N2. A home from home for me and each time I am close, I will not fail to stop off and stay there. I will even change my trip to add it in. Welcomed with huge smiles and now as I become a regular guest…good friends and lovely hugs.||||Pre stay communications are always good and I strive to get my favourite room each time – Abalone. Beautiful in green. They do fill up fast so make sure that you do a reservation. Animals are welcome too and we have met some delightful furry friends there.||||From the old world charm historical sandstone house and frilly lace veranda, where many cups of tea/coffee and lovely munchies have been consumed, meeting other friendly guests who have also returned again, to the comfy lodgings inside. ||||Gorgeous wood and old style furniture which brings a charm the modern world loses. The whole place is clean, comfortable, neat and well equipped. Homemade rusks in the bedrooms. Yum. I even helped make some on my last trip.||||Mariki and her team provide tasty, filling food that sets one up for exploring the easily accessible town and beach, which are close. They know exactly what is happening in the area, so can direct one to exhibitions, museums, sports functions, where to go, what to see and do. Better than any book!||||Hosts that are always available, no request too small, who pay attention to all details and their visitor’s needs. They even reunited me with my reading glasses I left behind. I find each stay there extending by more days...I am relaxed and at home. Mariki’s pretty flowers, a pool to cool off in, a braai area.||||You will not be disappointed staying there. Thank you Mariki and Reinier. 5 GOLD...
Read moreI thoroughly recommend visiting the Blue Whale Lodge in Mossel Bay, if you are in the area. For me, a home from home and I will always stop there if I am in the area.||||Run by hosts Mariki and Renier, you are in for a great welcome, a comfy stay and tasty breakfasts. A lovely older building with character filled rooms. No request too much. You arrive as a guest and leave as a friend.||||Ideally suited to the Point, town and local areas, with plenty of places to visit in the further surrounds. Plenty of eating places, plus Mariki and Renier are able to assist with what to do, see and where to go.||||Mossel Bay has boomed as a town and with the lovely Blue Whale Lodge there… it makes a good stop off if travelling or for longer as a holiday.||||As I return each time, I bump into people also returning. Happiness is at the Blue Whale Lodge!||||Thank you Mariki and Renier. I look forward to my next visit to South Africa and your lovely guest house. I appreciate having the room I like each time. Abalone with the super front view to the sea. Thank you for seeing to me when I was so poorly. You...
Read moreWe arrived with no booking & were treated by the owner as "distant relatives"!!! Or so it felt! A rare occurrence & absolutely delightful! He could not have done more re: efficient, fast check in / information regarding dining opportunities; general tourist information; maps etc. The lodge is small & extremely "homely" -- a pleasant ambience & as one would expect, spotlessly clean. Our room was large & comfortable (R450.00 incl breakfast), although not en-suite. However the room has it's own designated ENORMOUS bathroom across the passage -- quite novel in fact! Breakfast was amazing ... served in the small, but pleasant dining-room. Full "English-styled" with heaps of choices & very efficiently supervised by the co-owner who has the perfect personality to operate a guesthouse/lodge. Besides being extremely inexpensive, the venue is centrally & ideally located with good views of the bay. Only street parking is available which could be a bother. HIGHLY...
