First time I make a post - now unfortunately negative. First time I visited a couple of weeks ago the manager at the door told me “I guess you have to put your name on the waitlist”. That was without a welcome or hello or nothing. All good but really seemed like I disturbed her by just standing there in the corner. She then instructed the waiter to take me to a table where there is someone seated already. The waiter just left me there even though I told him I don’t know the lady but he just walked off. I then had to find another waiter and asked him to help me. All good and enjoyable from there until unfortunately I had to “bother” the same manager at the door again to ask her if I can pay. Second visit. Tried again. It was during loads-shedding so fair enough not an easy time to serve. Arrived at door there were two managers and waiters at the front trying to sort out payment during load-shedding. Again all understandable. I stood there for 10 minutes all of them saw me but nobody approached me. I realized they were busy so I went to another manager and asked him if they are accepting new guests. He said yes of course. Great - I told him I will sit outside and wait to be served. 15 minutes later and 3 different waiters walking past me numerous times without one as much as looked my way. I then decided to go in to try and find my own waiter. That is when I was informed that they can serve limited meals made on the grill only. I asked him politely to inform his manager about this also so that he is aware about the limited menu. I left then. I really could have made a scene but not in my nature. I don’t even like writing this and I hope you take this feedback as constructive rather than a complain. I will be back as it is the most beautiful setting but please sort out your service and put a smile on your employees faces and the will to deliver a service. Every person walking through your doors wants to have a good experience. Good luck to you all. Really I do like Spur. Currently sitting in the George Spur writing this. The service could not be more friendly and efficient. Is this out of the ordinary?… or just normal and what is...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at SPUR Mossel Bay
My wife and I, on vacation in Mossel Bay, decided to have a meal at the local Minnesota SPUR. We were greeted and escorted to our table, but unfortunately, that’s where the positive experience ended. The table had not been cleaned from the previous guests, and to our surprise, our waiter sat us down without addressing the mess left by the previous patrons. The placemats were placed over the dirty surface. My wife had to ask another waiter passing by to clean the table.
Looking around, the floor was scattered with trash — serviettes, straw covers, and old receipts, some of which were wet. Surprisingly, no one seemed to take notice or clean up during our entire visit.
After placing our order, we waited nearly 45 minutes for our food. There was no communication from the waiter about the delay, nor did we receive any updates. When the food finally arrived, it was a huge disappointment. The bread used in my wife’s meal was stale, and it crumbled as soon as she tried to hold it. I had a toasted cheese sandwich, which was similarly lacking in quality. To top it off, I was charged R100 for a basic sandwich, which seemed grossly overpriced for the quality and size. Furthermore, although all sandwiches come with chips, I was charged an additional R39 for only five extra chips.
When paying, we had to ask 2 people to get our bill, After identifying or waiter to the second staff member, Our waiter took finally arrived and left to retrieve the bill. At that time we were asked to relinquish the umbrella shading us from the sun for other patrons. I replied no to the staff member who requested it and explainer that they could get it once we paid our bill, as it felt then that we were being pushed to leave the restaurant. When the waiter returned he did not ask for our SPUR rewards card, and proceeded with the payment.
This experience was a major letdown, especially considering the price and the lack of quality. It felt like a complete waste of money, and we won’t...
Read moreAs per usual we had breakfast at Spur on Christmas morning. We visited Minnesota Spur at the Point in Mossel Bay, as we did last year.
We arrived near 9:30. Despite the restaurant still being fairly empty, our drink order took very long. We ordered our food as soon as the drinks were delivered. We then waited for over an hour for the food to arrive. When it arrived, the food terrible. Everything, including the plate was cold, the chips were dry as if it had been made hours earlier, even the toast was cold. My friend's sundae on the other hand, was melting. Furthermore the portions were small and inconsistent.
Since we didn't want to wait another hour for the food to be delivered (hopefully warm and in better condition), we had to eat there. Despite this poor and frankly disappointing experience, the manager was only willing to give a 25% discount, for food which was ice cold, with over an hour's wait time. If I could go back knowing what the experience would be, I'd rather have cooked at home.
You don't even need a matric to cook and serve food, yet, it seems even this simple task is too much to expect from this restaurant, which should be used to doing it every single day. The waiter was very friendly, but a waiter should follow up on food and be the last step of quality control before it's taken to the customer. Having been a waiter in my teenage years, I would not have served this food.
Had service like this been given in Pretoria, the restaurant would close down. And high volume is not an excuse, as the restaurant was maybe 35-40% full.
I do not believe this is the service that Spur SA wants to give. Having grown up in Mossel Bay, and with the Point being a landmark of the town, it's sad seeing another franchise destroy the experience at the Point, which...
