Cuenca is roughly 2 hours of nice diving from Madrid. I will highly recommend to go there at least for a 2 days trip. The old Cuenca is at the top, around a hill, where two rivers join. The hanging houses are the type of house hanging from a hill, built up. We didn't visited the interior of one, but you can imagine that houses that your daily life there means taking a stair up or down all the time: from the bedroom to the bath, to the kitchen, to the living, back to the bedroom. Take your time to walk around the city. I will recommend at least 2 two hours walks around the city, and just follow the labyrinthine streets. You will find other views, other statues, from each side of the hill, and always have a chance to take a picture. We were in winter and did the walk in the evening until/after sunset. We had fantastic views from the top of the city looking west. You can start your walk from a public parking down the slope (paid), in front of the Teatro Auditorio Cuenca, walk towards the Puente de San Pablo and then head west and down to Torre de Mangana. Or park park on the top of the hill, to the east of the city, near Mirador Barrio del Castillo, public free parking, and walk to the city from there.

Hanging Houses are incredibly impressive. Its amazing landscapes, its people and the atmosphere that it offers allows you to transport yourself to that you are definitely in a magical place never seen before. A beautiful city, since beginning of the road is an amazing one, full of landscapes and views only seen in movies, definitely of dreams. The beauty of nature that allows you to enjoy the views of Cuenca are absolutely unforgettable and an experience that everyone should have. I went as part of the places that my boyfriend and I wanted to visit during our vacation in Spain such a beautiful country with such an impressive culture, places and people. The only bad or difficult thing would be that some of the visitors could find is that at the end of the tour or to get out the city, the only way to get out is crossing a wooden and steel bridge, so people with problems of fears of heights or difficulty going down slopes are also the tour will make them a little difficult. It is important to let know that it is a wonderful experience but also the difficulties that some handy caps or people with some difficulties might front.

Amazing and precarious architecture! Lovely old town to walk. You can get a beautiful view of the hanging houses from the Parador across the way. There is a bridge that will also give you a good vantage point for excellent photos. It is imperative to visit this town in either the spring or the fall as the summer is unbearable and uncomfortable and the winter is just too cold to really tske the time to appreciate the beauty. You can also visit the nearby rock formations if you have a car. Cuenca is easy to get to by car (but parking isn't easy). The bus runs regularly from Madrid.

The wooden buildings are cantilevered, with balconies precariously extending over the edge of the cliff. The upper part of the balconies protrudes beyond the lower part, creating a unique design. The view from the balconies, overlooking the Huécar River and the cliffs, is truly spectacular. Evidence suggests they were built in the 15th and 16th centuries, but the only remaining examples of this type of construction are the Casa de la Sirena and the two Casas de los Reyes. Today, these buildings are used as the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art.

One of the most beautiful towns in Spain. The drive to Cuenca (from Zaragoza etc) is something not to be missed. The change in scenery is mesmerising- from flat dry lands to cliffs to tall trees. Cuenca is out of this world - it’s location, the views, the cobble stone streets and some very nice eateries. The hanging houses are the obvious attractions but a walk of the town is time well spent. The drive along with the walk around the town is very underrated but something not to be missed around this part of Spain

My husband and I had fun exploring the streets of Cuenca. I had read somewhat to take a taxi from the train station to the top. We did. The driver dropped us off by the bridge then we walked across and the most photographed hanging home was right there. When the taxi driver dropped us off we arranged for him to pick us back up in the same spot 30 minutes before our train departure, back to Madrid. I'm glad we arranged that on the front end, because I never did see a lot of taxis in that area.

Description
The Casas Colgadas is a complex of houses located in Cuenca, Spain. In the past, houses of this kind were frequent along the eastern border of the ancient city, located near the ravine of the river Huécar. Today, however, there are only a few of them remaining.
