The Geometric Art Studio — Attraction in Granada

Simply a wonderful way to spend 3 hours - this is my third time doing the Alhambra pattern class and it gets better and better. Kate and Mark are welcoming hosts, patient at explaining and generous with guidance. It's a beautiful bright space with Kate's work lining the walls, the studio really is worth a visit in itself.

I had no artistic experience before I attended my first class, which was no problem. The class is aimed at all abilities, from absolute beginner to established artist. If you've already visited the Alhambra this will add to your knowledge, and if you haven't visited it will give you a taste of Arabic art. Alternatively, come to the studio because you want to relax, as the process of creating the pattern and painting requires gentle focus and becomes meditative ✨️

If you want to continue creating geometric art you can buy paper and various paints here (from single pans to a full 48 pan set!).

Also there's a brand new item, a mystery kit - a "Blind Date with a Pattern". It contains 3 coloured paints, 1 gold metallic paint, brushes and a pre-drawn pattern on A4 paper. Excellent value, absolutely beautifully wrapped, it would make a super gift (if you can bear to part with it!).

I tried to see if they were open but they had not opened for the day due to extreme weather warnings. After WhatsApping Mark, he happily volunteered to come in just for me.

I had the most amazing session. I’m sure many of us would have seen the beautiful patterns within the Alhumbra, and the class with him helped me create a very unique souvenir from Granada! Mark was friendly, informative, patient (I’m terrible with arts and craft) and very easy to talk with as we spoke about more than just the artwork, the Alhambra (and how painstaking it must have been to create these patterns on such a large scale).

After visiting Alhambra I became fascinated with the islamic art and design. I did some research and I stumbled across The Geometric Art Studio that offers short courses that teach you how to make one of Alhambra designs. I enrolled myself and two daughter’s (18 & 22years)in a course with the owner Mark. We had an amazing time and learnt so much. Mark walked us through each step and after completing the design we got to transfer it and paint it using water colors.
