Museo del Patrimonio Municipal — Attraction in Málaga

Here is a permanent display of a selection from the historic and artistic Municipal Heritage. Paintings, sculptures and graphic works including works by Picasso or Carlos Haes.

The collection

With a catalogue of over 4,000 pieces, including sculptures, paintings and graphic works, 94 of the most representative pieces are permanently displayed. As for sculpture, the 66 artists that will be shown in successive exhibitions related to the 20th century are worthy of note. The tour, which begins in the lobby of the museum, goes through "Room I" dedicated to the period between the 15th and 18th centuries when Málaga became part of the kingdom of Aragón and Castile, transforming it from a predominantly Arabic society to a Castilian one. There is also a section devoted to baroque celebrations. "Room II" focuses on the 19th century and recreates the City Council's first municipal museum. We can learn about the origins of Picasso, the "Masters of the 19th century" or Carlos Haes, who features in the "Masterpiece" section. Finally "Room III" is dedicated to 20th century artists, especially those who had some connection with the City Council as the "First Scholarships" or the Generation of 50s who ushered the art of Málaga into the modern era. This place was amazing. We were greeted at the front desk by the sweetest member of staff. She was excellent. So kind and friendly to my children and provided us with all the information we would need, her name was Lola! Excellent. Even the staff upstairs minding the gallery were nice and helpful, definitely made a big difference to our visit. I love the plasticine models which display historic information of the City! Muy buenas! Me pareció espléndido!! Tenían expuestas obras de la grandísima Emilia Rebollo, gran artista local y por desgracia, muy desconocida y olvidada por Málaga. Busquen la vida de esta gran mujer, bien merece la pena. Si su obra es preciosa, su vida fué fascinante. Un orgullo para Málaga!!! Sus tapicerías y estarcidos me parecieron soberbios. El Museo consta de varias plantas que albergan diferentes artes y estilos. La obra pictórica tanto de autores malagueños como de fuera, en mi opinión es magnífica. Sin nada que envidiarle a museos con más ínfulas. La colección de carteles de las fiestas y ferias de Málaga me encantó. El museo también muestra documentación histórica muy relevante, sobre la ciudad. Tienen una parte de cerámicas de la Edad Media muy interesante. La parte del museo que habla, de la historia de la ciudad plasmada en plastilina, me parece genial. Muy original y sobre todo, una muy buena forma de que los peques (y los menos peques), aprendamos de la grandeza que tuvo Málaga, no hace tanto y del porqué hoy está en una situación bien distinta. Debería ser de visita "obligada" para los colegios e institutos. La sala del arte moderno y contemporáneo tiene también su puntito. El personal es muy agradable.
