We passed the shop several times, but after closing time. On our last day we passed again.. And out came one of the owners. I'm in a wheel chair and he pulled out a ramp, without any prompting.
And then we were given the "grand tour". History and family traditions mixed with technical details. For me, it was Great. My wife has a close friend that makes her own chocolate as a non-amateur. This provided me with basic info and made the presentation a real treat.
It's always a real experience to meet people that are enthusiastic about their work. Here the enthusiasm was like a geyser. And I enjoyed every minute.
For some reason we kept passing this shop during our stay. Now we know it was fate guiding us.
For my wife's friend I wanted to secure a special gift.
"Give me an assortment of chocolate that most reflects the shop's history and specialties". That was my order. Note that I did not specify a price. Since this was a very special gift, I wanted to go all out for once. And make the same for my wife. My Mastercard was ready for a masacre.
I'm not going to say the price was cheap, but less than half of what I was expecting. The craftsmanship and all the good stuff put into those boxes was way beyond the bill I was presented with.
Remember, the order was not for the most popular pieces , but those representing the history.
I have to admit, I'm not one of those gourmet types. So I can only relate to the people and the processes. My expectations were sky high.
We drove for more than 48 hours through Europe starting that night. We had a cooler, that was emptied for the sole purpose of keeping the chocolate safe from melting.
Beautiful tasteful packaging.
When opened, we were unsure about the condition of the chocolate, the "perfume" of chocolate burst into the room.
I was expecting great, but more interested in the expert opinion of those in the know.
She was overwhelmed. I have no other words. 4 of the sorts were of a type she often made. And just like the chocolate in the box, she only uses natural ingredients and traditional recipes.
When the dedicated non-amateur and professional meet, that's when good things happen.
Traditonal tastes and processes. European history at It's best.
Want a real experience? Tell those in the shop a little bit about yourself. And let them choose for you 🤗. I'm sure you'll be satisfied and maybe find a new favourite taste.
If in Madrid again, I'll want a...

Naturally, tradition and timelessness are what make this place truly special. Las pajaritas de chocolate (chocolates in the shape of origami birds) are among the most popular treats here, as well as the hard candies that come in a long list of interesting flavors. Oh, and we can’t forget the packaging! The boxes, bags, and gift wrap are very elegant, works of art...
