Currently staying at the NH Madrid Colon and I can honestly say, after staying in properties of all levels from modest/limited (Hampton Inn's 2 star) to full service/luxury (Four Seasons/St. Regis 5 star), the NH is SUPERB and significantly above par as a 4 star property. The staff makes you feel you've been missed, like a long time loving family member, and exude hospitality greatness! Some rooms may be smaller, than their US counterparts, however you dont miss the space. You're spending so much time enjoying the city, that you really appreciate the cozyness of the room when you're in it. The beds and pillows are magnificent. Daily housekeeping is excellent and evening turn down service should be award winning. Its not about the chocolates...its more so the care in truly ensuring the room lacks nothing as it undergoes a metamorphosis of sorts. Robes set out, slippers as well as night relaxation kits provided that include earplugs (you wont need them) sleep mask, pillow spray (nice aromatherapy touch) and yes...a piece of very fine chocolate. Breakfast will rival the finest buffet with its never ending array of cured meats, fine cheeses, pastries, juice bar (8 different kinds) milk/dairy selection ( 8 different kinds) and smoothies you may take to go if you wish. Guest service/concierge is in my opinion, the best in the industry. If you happen to speak with Yaiza, she will quickly go from guest service guru, to becoming a true friend you wish you could take in your travels. To the staff of the NH Madrid Colon, you've set the bar for others to follow. And to the others, I wish them luck....they...

Just spent the week staying at the NH Colon Madrid with wife and little doggy. Overall - highly recommended. Excellent value for money.
Location : Hotel is in a super safe and lovely part of town, just on the edge of Justicia, Malasaña and Chueca which are the best areas of Madrid for bars and restaurants - as well as the town centre with all the tourist stuff. Also close to park for dog walks. There’s also a supermarket a few block away if you’re like me and stock up on water and snacks and lots of shopping literally blocks away :) Staff: super super friendly and helpful. The front desk go out of their way to help out literally every time you ask for anything. The cleaning services are on point and super flexible with times etc. Facilities: well this isn’t the Four Seasons and the pool is super tiny and the gym has a few bits that could use some maintenance. But it’s all clean and well cared for. The pool is refrigerated and there’s lots of sun beds to chill on. Given the price point I’d say it’s actually way better than average.
Other stuff: they have excellent secure parking in the basement of hotel. The TV and entertainment is just terrestrial and there’s no tech to broadcast from phone or iPad. The rooms are quiet and the temperature control is spot on. Minibar has all usual stuff. Room service of average quality and price. But service is quick.
Finally, the hotel is super dog friendly. They had a little bed for our dog along with water and dog feeding bowls already in the room...
Read moreIm a meber of NH Discovery club and regularly stay in their hotels which I always find excellent . However their Discovery club leaves much to be desired. I ve stayed numerous times in one of their 5 star hotels in Madrid but the points - which by now should be considerable , never appear. I dont think theyre worth much anyway, which is odd for such an important hotel group. They could learn much from Melia and others. ||The Colon is ideally located in the city centre. Professionally welcomed , perfect friendly welcome at reception. Immaculately clean , 5 minutes in room , reception called enquiring if all was to our satisfaction in the room. A nice touch.||Im unable to give 5 stars due to the uninteresting bar with impossibly high prices. A Margarita . a half filled ---YES HALF filled small cocktail glass; about a single gulp cost 18.95€. NEVER have I been charged such a ludicrously high price anywhere in the entire world for such a miniscule normal drink. Its tantamount to robbery. I travel continuously and extensively ! It spoilt my stay making me feel robbed.||My advice is , avoid the bar like the plague! I imagine anything related to catering should be avoided. There are a myriad bars and restaurants close by, offering drinks and food at sensible prices, so take a short walk and feel...
