Puerta de Toledo represents one of the nineteen city gates that had the Walls of Philip IV. Annoyingly it sits in the middle of a roundabout, though there's no need to cross it to get up close as it's quite a small roundabout. The gate has features that make it look almost like a Triumphal Arch, such as the many statues that sit atop the roof of the gates. It's a beautiful structure, but you do have to go out of the way to see it compared to the main sights of the city.
It was built in 1827 as a triumphal arch to commemorate the return of Fernando VII after the Spanish War of Independence. It consists of a large arch in the center and two small arches on either side. There are various sculptures and decorations, including shields and trophies, above the door. On the north is the coat of arms of Madrid, and on the south is an allegory of Spain.
Good old gate. Its a tourists spot. But the roads are crowded at times. You can get beautiful shots from here. The city center is at walking distance. Its on an hilly road and we enjoyed taking pictures from the top. Early. Morning will be the best time to come. Its recommended to visit this place. It has some relevance in the history.
Even in the 15th century there was a gate around here named after the city of Toledo, but this one was built between 1817 and 1827. It was made using granite bricks and consists of a central arch and two secondary gates, as in the ancient Greek architecture. At of the gates they are statues representing the Spanish army
Toledo gates is in the middle of a roundabout and is worth having a look at. I visited on a Saturday afternoon, and it was quiet, I think there was only one other couple taking photos beside me. There's some nice cafes in the area and the toledo bridge and parks are nearby as well. Nice peaceful area to spend some time.
