The market in Pollença was such a disappointment. I remember visiting eight years ago when it was full of food, local crafts, and that special Mallorcan atmosphere. This time around it felt like a completely different place.
The very same illegal African immigrants who sell fake designer handbags and sneakers on the streets of Palma are now doing it here. Only this time with their own market stands. And somehow, it’s all happening in plain sight without anyone (and especially police) stopping it.
The rest of the stalls aren’t much better: dreamcatchers, Celtic-inspired jewellery, and piles of cheap imports from China - all passed off as “authentic Mallorca.” It just felt empty and fake compared to what it once was.
And the atmosphere? Mostly loud, sunburnt British tourists shouting across stalls. Not exactly the kind of charm that makes you want to linger over a glass of wine or bring something special home.
The only thing that still feels authentic, probably because it’s harder to fake, is the food section. That part still has some of the life and flavour that made this market worth visiting years ago. Sadly, it’s not enough to save the rest. Mallorca deserves better...
