My family and I have been coming to Pollenca since our current 10-year-old was only nine months – and I can safely say that we've never had a meal as deliciously prepared and elegantly presented as the one we've just enjoyed at La Fonda de l'aigua.
Like many other people, we tend to gravitate to the main square where there are lots of restaurants that serve well cooked and tasty food – and we always love being there. But this unique and refreshing little restaurant – with its calm and cooling white and blue decor, its Amélie soundtrack and understated yet polite, smiling and efficient service – is streets ahead of them all.
From the bread served in small, oven-warm rolls with clearly home-made allioli, to the colourful and remarkably tasty burrata salad (so often such a disappointment), to the exquisite salmon tartare served in tiny goldfish bowls, to the sharp and dreamy lemon meringue pie and the worryingly more-ish chocolate truffles (with a touch of ginger genius) – everything was exceptional. Add to that an unusually complex and satisfying rosé and we were very much in danger of simply pushing on through until supper and having round two. Even our ten- and nine-year-olds were prepared to stay – and that is high praise indeed.
But we managed to drag ourselves away – only after promising the hosts and ourselves to return in a couple of days. Then we'll be having everything else...
Read moreThis is a beautiful little spot, with lovely decoration and friendly waitresses. Unfortunately we had to wait an hour and fifteen minutes for our starters to arrive and in general the service was really really slow. We were left feeling hungry, frustrated and a little bit sour about the whole experience, which the cute menus and nice decor didn't make up for. The food was mostly tasty (agree with other reviewers that the ceviche is a highlight) but this is hugely detracted from when you're waiting such a long time for your food. There are plenty of restaurants within two minutes that prepare equally tasty food (some even more so) and they have also mastered the art of good service. This one isn't cheap either! I think this place may be fairly new, so perhaps it was just a teething issue - but I'd really advise the restaurant to work on it, and for the waitresses to communicate any...
Read moreMy wife booked this restaurant for our anniversary meal, we live in the village and were waiting for an excuse to try the food here as the reviews speak very highly…. The decor, lighting and ambiance did not disappoint, and neither did the food! We both cleaned our plates and we really enjoyed our meals, thank you! Regarding the service however, it wasn’t bad or rude, or even slow, it just felt a bit cold. I made a comment to our server that I liked their story and origin inside the menu, and I received a dry smile, my wife commented on the table settings and again no real response. The most conversation that she had with us was when she was explained that the tip had to be cash and not on the credit card. It’s a shame as the venue and quality of the food is very high, and I would love to eat there again, but sadly we didn’t feel as welcome as we have in other...
