Sober Social Colombo — Attraction in Colombo

SHOUT OUT!!!!!! : I want to share a great experience we had with Sober Social Colombo. As a part of a poetry community , we decided to hold our Valentine's session at the lounge with the theme "Love On The Rocks" with the concept of mocktails, poetry and love, making a great combination. We also thought the ambience and atmosphere is divine and would make a great experience for the event.

EVENT EXPERIENCE: From the time of the first meeting to the time of the event ended we had a great communication and coordination with the team. The entire staff is very warm and accommodating. We had a registration of 30 participants and they generously gave us their dining space and offered a special discount and were graceful with all the ups and downs of an event of such nature, which is rather a new experience for them as well. As expected,it was a memorable event that everyone really enjoyed and went smoothly.

CHILD FREINDLY: Especially I must mention how child friendly they were with my 6 year old who accompanied me to the meeting and event too. The staff is super friendly and kind. They have special drinks on the menu for little ones which is very thoughtful and rather cute.

FOOD: Firstly they greet us with a drink and achcaru shot, which is complementary for all!!! The food is exceptionally delicious, the Hula Crispy salad is full of flavours and crunch. A perfect balance of healthy and decadent. My daughter loved her Bunny Chow Chicken as it was presented so beautifully with edible flowers and other colourful elements. The spices are also well balanced so she could enjoy it. The chocolate fudge cake is absolutely to die for, again with such pretty plating aesthetics!!! The princess corner drink is very well put to gather with Icecream, soft pink flavours and sprite with a strawberry on top.. Left my little one all smiles. The gentlemen serving was also very sweet to keep her engrossed while I wrapped up the event.

OVERALL : Ending with, I must say we warmly welcome the newest dry bar concept to Srilanka with Sober Social Colombo, a novel experience for us non drinkers to have a space to socialise minus the alcohol. The ambience is top-notch, from the natural feel and garden vibes of the decorations to the detailing of all the interiors, just teleports to another place once one enters. The minute attention to all the plating details and flavours is so admirable and noteworthy and total value for money. A visit to this place is not just a visit but a poetic experience.

We recently visited Sobar Social Colombo in Arcade Independence Square for a dinner on 17/12/2024. It was a casual night out, and we were excited to try this unique spot, which is known for its non-alcoholic bar – one of a kind in Sri Lanka

Ambiance and Setting The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, very aesthetic and with dim lighting that set a cozy mood. not overcrowded, which made for a pleasant dining experience.

Service Our server was friendly and attentive, The food arrived promptly

Food and Drink

For starters, we had “prawn ball” which was beautifully presented and yummy!! .Rating 5/5 Soup 1 - cream of mushroom served with garlic bread texture of the soup was perfect. Rating 4/5 Soup 2 - spicy Thai beef and noodle it’s a coriander flavored beef noodle soup medium spicy .Rating 5/5

Drinks

Passion Fruit Mojito – Refreshing, though the portion size was a bit small. Rating: 3.5/5

White Sangria (White Wine) – A refreshing and well-balanced drink. Rating: 4/5

The main courses –

chicken Parmesan, teriyaki beef and seafood pad Thai and with the sea food pad Thai being particularly outstanding. The Thai style sauce garnished with Fried basil complemented the flavors perfectly.

Value for Money Considering the quality of the food and the overall experience, the prices were reasonable. The portions were generous, and we felt it was definitely worth the money for such a delightful dining experience.

Conclusion and Recommendation

Overall, we had a wonderful dinner at Sobar Social Colombo and we would definitely return to try more of their dishes. If you’re in Colombo and craving for a fine dining experience for affordable price I highly recommend...

Tried out this place following several positive reviews. Ambience was good. Drinks were good and unique. Food was basic. However the service was absolutely abysmal. Service staff were not trained and there is no proper mechanism to manage orders. We walked in at 12.50pm. We placed our order for food and drinks at 1pm. Our drinks order was messed up with another table. One of the drinks we ordered never came. And we had to request for water several times. By 1.45pm our food had not come. Upon complaining is when I believe they realised they had not placed our order with the kitchen. And even at that point, the manager did not acknowledge they messed up and committed the cardinal sin of lying and saying ‘restaurant is a bit busy’. Even after this, the ultimate no-no of service was made. Food was brought out 1 dish at a time for each person. Dish 1 - 01:55pm Dish 2 - 02:05pm By 2.20pm Dish 3 and Dish 4 did not come. So then we decided to leave. Even at the point of leaving the manager rushed to see if the food was ready but dish 4 was still not done. We still paid the bill (for whatever we consumed) but even that we had to do a reprint because we were going to be charged for the drinks that never came. The worst part - during this entire nightmare, there was nothing done to remedy the mistakes.
