Walk from Hauptbahnhof (main station) past Bollwerk and across Lorrainebrücke (walk on right side). At the end of the bridge, immediately after crossing the Aare, there is an arched gate with Botanischer Garten written on it. Wind your way through the terraced garden. Stop at the café for coffeee or drink. When finished, find a stairwell to the Aare and continue walking east (away from station) along the river. In summer, there will be swimmers and picnickers along the shore. You can make your way to the tip of the peninsula that makes up the center if you have time or cross the low bridge in Altenberg and make your way back toward the station.
