This art museum is the pride of Lausanne and opened in 2019. It belongs to what is called Platform 10 that also includes The Elysée museum for photography and Mudac, the design and contemporary art museum, both open since mid June 2022. It's strange that they have called the museum area that lies just north of the railway station, and hence platform 0, whereas platform 9 lies in the southermost part of the station. So we prefer to call it Platform -1.If you visit Lausanne, your should definitely get a ticket for all three museums and spend a morning or an afternoon here. The cantonal museum has a large permanent exhibition and two temporary ones, for the moment presenting one of our local artists from the first half of the 20th century, Gustave Buchet, and the other one paintings, sculptures and photographs connecting to trains, railroads and stations, Voyage imaginaires, You can follow Buchet's artistic evolution through the classical styles of the first half of the 20th century and it's obvious that he was not a leading artist of his time but rather a follower. I personally preferred Voyages imaginaires, that is well curated, presenting among other artists, Hopper and Magritte.

This museum exceeded all my expectations! The exhibits are incredibly well-organized, offering a deep dive into history, art, and culture. Every display feels thoughtfully put together, making it both engaging and informative for all ages. The staff is not only welcoming but also very knowledgeable, eager to share insights and answer questions. The overall layout is spacious, making it easy to navigate even on busy days without feeling crowded. There’s something for everyone, from interactive displays to more traditional exhibits. Whether you're a casual visitor or a history enthusiast, this museum provides a rich and immersive experience that’s hard to find elsewhere. Highly recommended for anyone looking to spend a few hours learning and exploring!

It was a building with clean lines, built next to the tracks. However it’s not too big, and under-26s could visit for free. I paid 15CHF to visit the temporary exhibition. The permanent collections were on the right side of the museum and the temporary one (currently on tissage and textiles) on the left. There were a few interesting paintings on the first floor, though I have to admit I found the more modern stuff on the top floor less interesting. It was a nice visit, a good way to visit the building and also learn about local artists.
