Really vibrant and full of stores that are numbered, making it easy to find recommended stores provided by some bloggers/youtubers. We went on the 2 nights we stayed here - the first night was raining heavily due to the typhoon so we were lucky to be able to visit without many people. The next day was packed and people were not social distancing so we felt uncomfortable staying there too long. Some feedback on the popular items: 一口吃sausages were only 7NT each but they had lots of chewy bits in it and we didn't really like it. the peanut bingsu is really good, packed with it In the cups and only 50NT each the crab soup was good, but not out of this world. 70NT for that with real crab meat pieces springroll is recommended. The skin is freshly made on the Spot and only costs 40NT each. the famous sandwiches is good at 75NT for the signature fried pork cutlet with ham. However also not out of this world, I think it's a long lineup mainly because it's just high CP.
Overall great market with lots of food to choose from. We just didn't want to stay on for too long the 2nd night as it was getting more packed as we...
Read moreThe night market here was pretty fun and most importantly, it had games for kids. I looked at reviews before we went but didn't see anything recent on games so I wanted to add this.
They had a ring toss game and the little pinball game. There were a couple of balloon shooting games but the prizes were kinda sad looking. Funny note, they have different standards for children, women, and men to win. Also quite a few claw machines, but they were impossible to win as usual!
Overall a pretty good market. My auntie recommended the pao pao ice but the lines were too long. It looked really good though! We got duck wings and dumplings and there were lots of fresh fruit options. I'm a native speaker so I didn't have any issues with language but I did see quite a few foreigners conversing with stall owners in English so it seems like many people there speak enough English.
Would definitely recommend if in the area but also it's still insanely hot at night in June so be...
Read moreOf the 7 night markets in Taiwan that we have visited, this night market has the most selection and a huge variety of great tasting food. We came in during the Ching Ming holiday, which means everyone has time off from the office. There were so many people out and about. It is a pretty impressive experience and I had a wonderful time eating and interacting with the locals as we were sharing a table with another couple. The night market culture in Taiwan rose around temples, as temples are natural meeting areas in towns and cities. As more people congregate around temples more frequently, these night markets grew in size. And because the temples are the hub for night markets, the temple caretakers gives the patrons of the night markets access to the restrooms/toilets. This is handy information for foreign visitors who maybe looking for a place to wash up before and after a night at the...
