After an hour and a half bus ride from Hsinchu, we had arrived in Keelung, our first visit to this beautiful port city. As it was the rainy season, we jumped into a cab to arrive at the Hotel Beidoo minutes later, about NT$75 when the starting cab fare is NT$70. ||||Not happy to be told that our room is not ready till 3pm, we left our luggage and head straight off to tour the surrounding areas when the rain was not as heavy - Baimiweng Old Fort and Bisha Fish Market, the two main attractions in Keelung. ||||Checked in around 2.30pm and was given room 851 initially but room was still not yet ready. Furious, I asked for another similiar room type, and was given 855, which is next to an aircon compressor room (got to wear ear plugs to sleep due to the constant buzzing sound). As we are only staying for 2 nights, we relented as room 851 is next to the lift landing, which could be noisier. ||||Our room 855 seemed refurbished, quite spacious and the bathroom has tub and a window to the roof top garden. Sound proofing is not perfect but neighbours are generally quiet during the night. No outside traffic noises, thank god! ||||The Twin beds, however, was the most comfy of our 3 hotels in this 9 days Taiwan trip and we slept pretty well here. Breakfasts next day was rather extravagant, with many choices. Porridge was very warm here, great for my mum! We noted no Mainland Chinese tour groups here, instead, they serve mostly Taiwanese tour groups. ||||Location to the Maikou Night Market is about a 10 mins walk, not too bad in my opinion. And there are lots of eateries near this Hotel. Staff are all friendly and helpful, too. When we complained that there is no safe in the room, they had offered to store our valuables at the Reception's safe. And this had worked well. Wifi in room also worked. ||||All in all, we have had a great stay here. Among the 3 hotels in this trip, this Hotel was the best and its rates are also the highest among the 3 hotels. Slight negatives of staying here are - ||1. there are some 6-7 marble steps leading up from the road to the Reception area. In rainy weather, which Keelung is famed for, this could pose as a health hazard. ||2. No safe in room, had to use Reception's safe - a chore. ||3. the Hotel's facade and lobby areas are very dated indeed. ||4. Enforced a 3pm check in time. Come on, this is not even Japan where most Japanese hotels' check in time is 3pm. ||5. our room 855 is next to a compressor room, constantly producing a buzzing sound. Got to wear ear plugs. ||6. carpeted floors in the room, bad for allergy sufferers like me. ||||After a two nights stay here, we took a 30 mins bus ride to Taipei, where we spent our last 3 nights in...
Read moreWe booked our stay here for a night after our 5-day cruise early this year. Our room, though huge, is only good for two persons and has no windows but that's ok..we just want a place to take a rest and leave our stuff for our northeastern tour the following day. Room rates included a buffet breakfast which was a basic combination of western and chinese food. ||Location-wise it's very good, just a few minutes walk from Keelung's night market - which my hubby and I did really enjoy especially the street food! There are also other establishments nearby like banks, convenience stores etc, and it's also very near the Keelung port. ||The only comment I have is that this hotel is kinda outdated. The hotel hallways are not well-lighted and looked very gloomy (see attched photos). Airconditioning and bed were ok for us. Overall, we had a pleasant stay...
Read moreThe windows in our room did not close tightly, so our room was extremely noisy the whole night from the busy road below, despite being located on the 8th floor. Also our room was quite cold during the night. There is no heating and the temperature of the air conditioning can not be set, only on or off. The wallpaper was coming off, and the furnishings were old and worn. The hotel is in dire need of a renovation.Location is quite good though, close to Miaokou night market. Free underground parking.Still cannot recommend Beidoo Hotel. Stay...
