Today I bought 2 ticket near the entrance: 1 for Science hall and 1 for Exhibition hall. I decided to enter the Science hall first and when the inspector wanted to see my ticket, I presented both tickets at the same time because I didn't know which is which. She scanned the Science hall ticket, stamped a red mark on my arm, but she took the one for Exhibition hall, which both I and she didn't notice. After several hours inside Science hall, I decided to visit Exhibition hall. After the inspector there checked my ticket, he said that the ticket which I showed to him was for the Science hall. At that moment I realized that the 1 ticket that the inspector at the Science hall took away from me was for the Exhibition hall. I asked them how I could retrieve my ticket back because at that moment that inpsector was long gone. They said I should buy a new one. And the price for the one for Exhibition hall was 5 times more expensive than the one for Science hall. And that how my got only 1 thing by losing money for 2. After the incident, I would never go to that museum again. The Science hall was just okay, it's just everyday things on Youtube. The thing I hated the most was that there was almost no public bench for a little rest inside the building, as if they didn't want you to take a rest to continue the visit, or they just wanted to evict you as soon as you happened...
Read moreJust spent an entire day exploring the National Museum of Natural Science (國立自然科學博物館) in Taichung, and it was a spectacular journey through time and space! 🤩 This isn't just one museum; it's a massive complex packed with discovery. Every hall offers a world of exploration. We started with the incredible Life Science Hall, where we saw everything from realistic wildlife dioramas like the zebra on the savanna 🦓 to massive whale skulls and fossils that make you feel tiny. It’s an immersive look at evolution and biodiversity. Next up was the Earth Science Hall, where you can gaze up at a glowing, detailed model of the Sun 🔥 and explore models of ancient creatures like the Keichousaurus fossil! It’s mind-blowing to consider how vast and ancient our planet's history is. 🌏🦴 And don't miss the fascinating Human Culture Hall! I loved seeing the detailed models of ancient architecture, like the multi-story wooden pagodas—a true testament to human ingenuity through the ages. The whole place is beautifully designed and highly interactive. Whether you're a science enthusiast, a history buff, or you're just looking for a fantastic family day out, this museum is a must-visit. You’ll need a few hours, minimum, to cover just the highlights! A truly enriching and educational...
Read moreThis is an excellent museum that most major cities not called London, New York or somesuch would be delighted to have and for a country the size of Taiwan it's superb. It has a strong permanent life science exhibition with a well thought out progression from the beginning of life through an excellent dinosaur section with animatronics to the evolution of man. There's a range of special exhibitions which, most of the times I've been, have included intelligent links to the arts and culture (currently - insects and stamps) and, just across the road, there's a lovely, if small, botanical dome with enormous amazonian fish at the bottom. That said, it is an older museum now, and there's a bit of a shortage of interactive exhibits (except for the great microscopy room). The English translations are also patchy. QR codes are improving the situation and special exhibitions generally do quite well, but swathes of the collection have no English at all. If you are confident about science, you will be able to cover most children's questions, and the dinosaur section is mostly complete, but it is a shame the English is not a bit more thorough. Still, I always step by to say hello to the pickled giant squid...
