It is a relatively small temple, but an important one for many Chinese in Taiwan, because it is a temple for the Chinese- believers and non-believers to make a pray for the their sick relatives or friends, to pray for the relations, etc. The belief or tradition is that believers who make pray for something should promise in the pray for return the wish coming true, if the pray is fulfilled. The Temple's believers and worshippers seem to follow the concept of the True Faith, Self Examination, and Respect of Deities, the three core religious concepts of the Temple. Because of the traditional belief that the gods in the temple did grant the needed for their wish to help the sick or the poor or other needed, it is NOT unusual for visitors to see prayers who kneel on the temple's concrete ground for making pray and for making wishes. Because of its reputation for granting wishes, many prayers are NOT local Taipei residents.

Many prayers who visit the temple for medical wishes for the relatives or for their loved one, and they seem to believe the temple gods have super natural power similar to St. Peregrine of the Catholics.

The temper has its focus on two gods- Tian Kong and Guan Kong- which are based partially Taoist belief [Tian Gong, heavenly God] and partially folk belief [Guan Gong for justice and for the weak] and which are NOT related to Buddhism.

The temple is also unique because it is the first Taiwanese temple to cease using incense for the worship practice, because of concerns for the incense which may cause air pollutions and other environmental issues. .

Coming out the temple, turning left, and walking along the Mingchuang East Avenue, it is major business district for Taipei funeral service providers, and many funeral service providers do use their 2nd floor or 3rd floor apartment or building as the rent-out facilities for funeral "wake" services" for the deceased families. This replaces wake service to be held on streets of 10 to 20 years ago, although wake service held at street is still not uncommon in south Taiwan.

Coming out the temple, at intersection street tunnel, it is another fortune telling service center in Taipei, while another center is near Lungshan Temple in Wanhua.

The Hsing Tian Kong temple has more Japanese and Asian tourists than Americans or European tourists who seem to prefer Lungshan Temple and...

God of Police, Gangsters, Prostitution, War and Literature.

Home to Husband Gong, famously the God of Police, Gangsters, Prostitution, War and Literature, and protector of the Buddhist scriptures. Husband Gong is one cool dude. The connection, he swore an oath of brotherhood in a peach garden (see the novel Romance of the three kingdoms) and therefore is known for loyalty, the Police, Triads, War comrades are all brotherhoods, prostitution is a sisterhood, and Literature and Buddhism were latter bonuses to his illustrious career. This is one of the biggest temples in Taipei, so what it lacks in decoration or atmosphere, it makes up in size. Located just east of the red light district, a good place to go before visiting a lady of the night or scoring, but remember who he supports, so unless you know some scriptures and intend a night of naughtiness, don't forget to worship the other deities too. Take one stick of incense for each incense receptacle, introduce yourself to the deity, and pay respects by raising the incense to eye level and bowing 3 times before depositing your incense. In all, as a working rather than just a tourist temple, well...

Xingtian Temple, located at the intersection of Minquan East Road and Songjiang Road in Zhongshan District, Taipei City, is commonly known as the "Enzhugong Temple". The main deity is Guandi (Guan Gong), and the five saints Yue Fei, Lü Dongbin, Wang Shan, Zhang Shan and others are also enshrined. This temple was founded by Taoist priest Huang Xuankong, a coal miner, and completed in 1967. It is the main temple of the "Xingtian Sangong". The other two branch temples are located in Zhongyi Mountain in Beitou District and Baiji Mountain in Sanxia District, New Taipei City. Xingtian Temple is famous for promoting a "pure heart". No incense or gold paper is burned in the temple, and no donation boxes are set up. Only tea and flowers are offered as offerings to create a solemn and pure worship environment. The building adopts the Minnan style swallowtail ridge design, integrating reinforced concrete with traditional craftsmanship, showing a combination of modern and traditional. There are 108 door nails on the temple door, symbolizing the 36 Celestial Stars and 72 Earthly Stars, which are meant to protect the believers. The underground street in front of the temple is called "Fortune Telling Street" because it gathers many fortune tellers and has become one of the famous cultural attractions in Taipei City. Xingtian Temple is not only a center of religious belief, but also carries the mission of promoting the Five Relationships and Eight Virtues and carrying forward traditional culture. It is deeply respected by believers from all walks of life.
