Chiang Mai Women's Prison is an exceptional example of a correctional facility that prioritizes rehabilitation and skill development over traditional punitive methods. This unique approach to incarceration not only benefits the inmates but also contributes positively to society as a whole.
The prison's commitment to reform is evident through its various vocational training programs. Inmates have the opportunity to learn valuable skills such as traditional Thai massage, weaving, and handicrafts. These programs not only provide practical skills but also boost the self-esteem and confidence of the incarcerated women, giving them a sense of purpose and a chance for a brighter future.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Chiang Mai Women's Prison is its open-door policy for visitors, who can witness firsthand the positive changes happening within its walls. This transparency fosters understanding and empathy, dispelling stereotypes often associated with incarceration.
The prison's focus on rehabilitation also extends to educational opportunities, including literacy and language classes. This investment in education empowers inmates to reintegrate into society more successfully upon their release.
Moreover, Chiang Mai Women's Prison operates a shop where visitors can purchase the crafts and products made by the inmates. This not only helps generate income for the prison but also provides inmates with a source of income, a sense of accomplishment, and an opportunity to give back to society.
By prioritizing reform and skill development over harsh punishment, Chiang Mai Women's Prison stands as a shining example of a compassionate and effective approach to incarceration. It offers hope, second chances, and a pathway toward reintegration, ultimately contributing to the rehabilitation and betterment of the incarcerated women and...
Read moreThis establishment is somewhere that deserves praise.. It gives women prisoners the opportunity for rehabilitation and learning new skills so that they can obtain qualifications such as learning to do thai massage and hospitality in the outside eatery that operates here aswell..
Having today experienced a 2hr Thai body massage, I can only say that it was the best thai massage I have experienced in all my years of travelling around Thailand..
You can't prebook your massage online or by phone call. You have to arrive in the early morning and wait in the que..
Sign on gate states 08.00hrs-16.30hrs Monday-Friday and 09.00hrs on weekends..
We arrived at 07.30hrs and was 1st in the que.. This meant we had the first 2 appointments of the day..
And before the gates were opened at 08.45hrs, 35people were waiting in the que behind us..
This is just an amazing and relaxing place for a massage..
You're asked what massage you want as you pay..
The thai massage is either soft, medium, or hard ..
I opted for the medium, and that definitely worked well for me.. If you enjoy a good massage and want to help with giving these ladies hope for their future, you won't be disappointed here..
There's an outside eatery that I have to say served some delicious food for us after our massage..
There's also a small museum/ information block here as well to explain all about how this all came about.. When we return to chaing mai again, we'll definitely be queing for another massage here without...

Review for massage parlor:
Walked in 9am and was able to book a Thai body and foot massage (2 hrs). 500 baht. Reasonably priced. This place gets busy very fast. Please keep in mind the beds are all located in one room and coed. There won't be 100% silence but some whispers. It didn't bother me. You'll be given a set of PJ, your feet will be cleaned before heading to the bed. The warden at front desk will sign you in with a survey form to be filled out later. The masseuse will bring you in. This place is organized well, clean, professional and structured. Loved it. My masseuse, JIB was amazing. You will be asked if you like the pressure soft, medium or hard and can adjust accordingly. My back was very thankful hearing all the cracks. It felt sooooo good. The foot massage - OMG! I fell asleep half way in🤣 There will be some parts which will be a bit intense. I loved it. Lovely women and happy to support a business that would empower these women and not be stereotyped for being ex- prisoners. I would highly recommend it and please support and tip them good. Tip goes into a tip box which I assume will be distributed equally.
Review for the Chuan Chom restaurant
Ordered the fried rice with shrimp paste and iced milk tea. Ambiance is great but didn't quite enjoy the food. Menu had basic and limited options which is understandable. Perhaps the drink menu would be a good choice after a...
