I visited this shop twice during my stay in Chiang Mai. The first time I just looked around and noticed they also had an exhibition upstairs — it was nice, and I thought I might come back to buy something later.
The second time, I came specifically because I had been thinking about a bracelet I saw earlier. I asked the staff for more options, they kindly showed me several pieces, and I carefully checked with my friend who knows about crystals. In the end, I decided not to buy because my friend suggested they were not genuine crystals. I apologized to the staff for taking up their time and was about to leave.
However, when I walked out, the staff followed me and accused me of “only coming to the shop to use the toilet” — this was shocking and very disappointing. I had used the toilet before because I saw another customer do so, and there were no signs saying it was forbidden or only for paying customers. If there are rules, they should be clearly stated, not used later as a way to blame customers.
As a foreign visitor, I came with goodwill and real purchase intention. I was even considering buying their popular elephant souvenirs, but after this treatment, I lost all interest. The shop itself looks nice, but the attitude of the staff left me hurt and offended. Definitely not the welcoming Chiang Mai...

Read moreI recommend visiting! The welcoming wooden building on a corner and has porches open to both sides (as well as comfy seats) so you can glimpse the art before stepping in. Most of the paintings on the walls are by the artist-in-residence, Kaew. I first encountered her on Sunday Walking Street; you may find her there or at a local market (if it is running; the pandemic causes the situation to change weekly.) But the gallery is open every day.
The paintings are striking and use monk, stupa, tuk-tuk, or elephant motifs which give it a Thailand feel. I bought two paintings there (very reasonably priced for original artwork, though not inexpensive.) Prints, ceramics, figurines, and magnets are also available. Lots of quality stuff to browse. The staff are sweet (and go above and beyond to make sure the paintings are well packaged.) My paintings shipped via FedEx and arrived in the U.S. in a week, safe and undamaged. A locally owned business and a great place to find a one-of-a-kind souvenir...
