The path leading into Ortaköy Square was a small, downward slope, about four to five hundred meters long. Inside, it opened up into a spacious area featuring restaurants, a harbor, and the stunning Ortaköy Mosque. 🕌 Situated right on the European side next to the Bosphorus Strait, with the bridge in the background, it creates a remarkably prominent and beautiful scene. 🌉 Our tour group was given free time to take photos 📸, and anyone feeling warm could step into a coffee shop. ☕ I noticed several Arab-style hookahs (Nargile) set up, but since it was very early morning, no one was using them yet—apart from some members of our group who stopped for coffee. No one pointed it out, but a quick Google search indicated that an ancient public water fountain (Sabil/Çeşme) was nearby. 💡 This gave me the chance to go and look at it, and snap a few pictures! It’s a shame I didn't get to try using it, but I believe it is still perfectly functional. 💧 As we walked out of the alley and waited for the bus, we saw a shop selling freshly baked bread 🥖 and a grilled meat stall where skewered meats were neatly arranged and ready to be cooked—it looked absolutely delicious! 😋 Personally, I was thrilled to be standing right at the edge of the Bosphorus Strait, quite literally on the border of the European continent. 🇪🇺 It felt like a great life reward! Even though the visit was quick and I didn't get to explore around or take a proper Ferry cruise down the Bosphorus as one should, having exceeded my expectations so much, I truly didn't feel like I was missing...

Ortaköy Square is a vibrant and bustling hub located in the charming Ortaköy neighbourhood of Istanbul, right by the Bosphorus. This picturesque square is surrounded by a delightful mix of cafés, restaurants, and boutique shops, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike.

The square is particularly famous for its stunning views of the Bosphorus Bridge, which serves as a striking backdrop to the lively atmosphere. On weekends, the square comes alive with street vendors selling delicious treats, from traditional Turkish street food like kumpir (stuffed baked potatoes) to sweet treats like waffles and Turkish delight. It’s a fantastic place to enjoy a leisurely afternoon, people-watch, and soak in the vibrant culture of Istanbul.

A highlight of Ortaköy Square is the iconic Büyük Mecidiye Mosque, also known as the Ortaköy Mosque, which stands proudly overlooking the water. Its stunning architecture adds to the square’s charm and attracts visitors keen to explore its beauty.

In the evenings, Ortaköy Square transforms into a lively social scene, with many people gathering to enjoy the stunning sunset over the Bosphorus. The lively atmosphere, coupled with the beautiful scenery, makes it a perfect spot for a romantic stroll or a casual evening out with friends.

Overall, Ortaköy Square is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Istanbul. Its vibrant atmosphere, delicious food, and breathtaking views create a unique and memorable experience that captures the essence of this...

As Director of TURKEY Tourism USA based in New York, I am on assignment in Istanbul to compile our 2025 guidebook. This means that I am evaluating so much in Istanbul to advise travelers who are planning journeys to the city. Ortaköy ranks high on my list of recommendations of "must-see" places in Istanbul.

Nestled along the Bosphorus, Ortaköy is one of Istanbul's most picturesque and lively neighborhoods, making it the #12 must-visit site in the city. This charming area is known for its vibrant atmosphere, scenic waterfront, and the iconic Ortaköy Mosque, a stunning example of neo-Baroque architecture.

The mosque, with its elegant minarets and intricate details, stands as a symbol of Ortaköy, offering breathtaking views of the Bosphorus Bridge, especially at sunset.

Ortaköy is not just about its architectural gems; it's also a hub of culinary delights and local culture. As you stroll through the cobblestone streets, you'll encounter a plethora of cafés, artisan shops, and street vendors.

A visit to Ortaköy wouldn’t be complete without indulging in Kumpir, a popular Turkish street food. These giant baked potatoes are loaded with a variety of toppings, from savory to sweet, making them a must-try for anyone exploring the area.

Spend around two to three hours in Ortaköy to fully soak in the neighborhood's unique charm. After visiting the mosque, enjoy a leisurely walk along the waterfront, savoring the flavors of Kumpir, and perhaps browsing the local handicrafts at the...

I took a trip from Emirgan Park to Ortaköy, one of my favorite spots in Istanbul. After enjoying the lively atmosphere around the Ortaköy Mosque and the waterfront cafés, I decided to take a ferry ride across the Bosphorus during sunset. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. the sky was painted in shades of orange and pink, reflecting beautifully on the calm water. The ferry ticket was surprisingly affordable, and I simply used my Istanbul Card to board, just like taking a bus or metro. As the ferry moved slowly toward the Asian side of Istanbul, I could see the city’s skyline glowing with evening lights. The Bosphorus Bridge stood tall in the distance, connecting two continents ( Europe and Asia) in a single view. The breeze was gentle, and the sound of the waves mixed with seagulls flying nearby created a soothing atmosphere. It felt peaceful yet magical, watching both sides of Istanbul from the middle of the strait. The experience reminded me how unique this city is a blend of history, culture, and beauty that connects two worlds. That short ferry trip became one of the most memorable moments of my journey in Istanbul. Overall Good experience
