Ruby Istanbul – A Ceremony of Access, Not a Nightclub (see other details for a detailed diary of the visit, limited character-count here only.) I'm a physician visiting for a conference, recommended Ruby by a friend and two guides. Arrived solo around midnight, dressed elegant-casual. Was told it’s “couples only,” then asked about a reservation. Eventually allowed in after paying a $50 cover—reluctantly, but respectfully. Then: 15 awkward minutes. No one guided me. No welcome. Every table occupied or reserved. Some call this “cold service”; I think it’s structure (and also language barrier of staff). Ruby isn’t built for spontaneous connection—it’s a show. You're either cast in it or you're scenery. The crowd? Gorgeous women, very average men—except in their spending. Tables start at $500 CAD. Champagne came with fireworks. Two dancers—Moulin-Rouge caliber—put on stunning 15-minute shows, then disappeared. A yacht docked to drop off VIPs. This isn’t clubbing. It’s choreography. The DJ was excellent. Music ranged from remixed international hits to Turkish megahits—so good I Shazammed a dozen. The panoramic Bosphorus view? Worth the cover alone. I didn’t get what I came for. But I chose not to sulk. I tuned in instead. Ruby doesn’t court you—it curates. And once you're in, they let you stay. Just don’t expect a warm embrace. Know your role. Enjoy the spectacle.

The best way to describe this place is “wannabe fancy.” The only good thing about it is the view. First, they have face control at the entrance, which is absolutely ridiculous for a restaurant. We were a group of five and ordered two starters to share, three main courses, and five cocktails to start. The waiter was visibly unhappy and rude about it, pushing us to order more. Throughout the evening, he served us with an annoyed and displeased expression, even though we later ordered desserts and additional cocktails. Desserts—given the image this place tries to project, they were shockingly bad. I wouldn’t expect to eat a dessert this terrible anywhere in Turkey. The bill was another unpleasant surprise. We were charged 500 TL for complimentary bread and olives. On top of that, there was a 480 TL service charge, which had to be paid in cash and wasn’t mentioned anywhere on the menu. In total, we paid an extra 1,000 TL beyond the listed prices. Bottom line: Rude staff, overpriced, and disappointing food. Unless you’re a complete douchebag, I wouldn’t recommend going here.

Despite the beautiful view and great foods, I didn’t like the service and their ethics. First of all, I found an over charge in my recipe for an item (I ordered 2 but charged 4) after I processed the payment. When I told them, they asked me to visit them tomorrow to get my money bank (which was not possible for me so I let it go). Also I asked the waiter to bring a few good appetisers and he picked the most expensive ones from the menu including a shrimp avocado (he brought it for everyone in the party) which we didn’t like is because we don’t like raw shrimp (he didn’t ask before being it or confirmed with me if we like shrimp or not). Also keep in mind that we ended up paying the appetisers more than food + drinks!! This is a fair indication to me of a lack ethic when you trust them with your choice. They never confirmed with me any appetiser before bring them to the table. I will try to attach the receipt here so you can see the whole thing.

I recently visited the Ruby Restaurant in Istanbul with my brother, and unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. As seasoned travelers who have dined in high-class establishments across the globe, we were appalled by the discriminatory treatment we received at this establishment. The management's statement of "we prefer couples" not only lacked meaning in the current era but also reflected a disheartening form of discrimination.

Upon arriving at Ruby Restaurant, we were hopeful of enjoying a delightful dining experience, as we had heard positive reviews about the cuisine and ambiance. However, our anticipation quickly turned into disappointment when we were informed that the establishment preferred to cater exclusively to couples. This discriminatory policy not only contradicts the principles of inclusivity and equality but also fails to acknowledge the changing dynamics of modern society.

In an era where diversity and acceptance are celebrated, it is disheartening to encounter such outdated practices in a supposedly reputable establishment. As patrons who have frequented high-class restaurants around the world, we have never encountered such a biased stance that categorizes and excludes individuals based on their relationship status.

Discrimination of any form, including preferential treatment towards certain customer groups, is simply unacceptable and does not align with the values upheld by progressive establishments in today's society. A restaurant should strive to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for all its patrons, regardless of their relationship status.

The discriminatory behavior displayed by the management of Ruby Restaurant not only tarnishes its reputation but also perpetuates a harmful stereotype that undermines the principles of equality and diversity. It is essential for businesses to adapt to the changing dynamics of society and embrace the diverse range of customers that they serve.

I urge the management of Ruby Restaurant to reevaluate their policies and practices, taking into account the values of inclusivity, fairness, and equality. By doing so, they can create a more harmonious environment where all guests feel valued and welcome, irrespective of their relationship status.

As discerning travelers who appreciate fine dining experiences, it is disappointing to encounter such discriminatory practices, especially in a city as vibrant and diverse as Istanbul. I sincerely hope that Ruby Restaurant reconsiders its discriminatory policy and takes necessary steps to create a more inclusive environment for all its patrons.

In conclusion, my brother and I left Ruby Restaurant feeling disheartened by the discriminatory treatment we received. We strongly discourage others from patronizing an establishment that fails to embrace the values of inclusivity and equality that should be upheld in...

I recently had the unfortunate pleasure of dining at Ruby after booking a table two days in advance and specifically requesting a special table. Regrettably, my expectations were far from met, as the restaurant failed to provide us with the requested seating arrangement, leading to a disappointing experience overall.

From the moment my party arrived at the restaurant, it was clear that something had gone wrong. Despite having made a special table request during the booking process, we were escorted to a generic, unremarkable table in a cramped corner of the restaurant. It was evident that no effort had been made to fulfill our request, leaving us feeling disregarded and undervalued as customers.

The lackluster seating arrangement was not the only issue that marred our experience. The restaurant's staff seemed disorganized and overwhelmed, struggling to keep up with the bustling atmosphere. It took an unreasonably long time for a server to approach our table, leaving us waiting in frustration. Once our order was finally taken, the service remained sluggish throughout the evening, with lengthy delays between courses and a general lack of attentiveness from the staff.

To make matters worse, the quality of the food did not compensate for the disappointing service. Our dishes arrived lukewarm and lacked the finesse and flavor we had anticipated. It was clear that the kitchen was struggling to maintain consistency in their preparations, resulting in a lackluster dining experience. Even when we brought our concerns to the attention of the staff, they merely offered half-hearted apologies without any attempt to rectify the situation or offer an alternative solution.

One of the most disheartening aspects of the evening was the realization that the restaurant had failed to uphold the promises it made during the reservation process. By specifically requesting a special table, we had expected a more personalized and memorable experience. However, the lack of attention to detail and disregard for our request left us questioning the integrity and professionalism of the establishment.

Ultimately, our visit to [Restaurant Name] left a bitter taste in our mouths, both figuratively and literally. The failure to provide the requested special table, coupled with lackluster service and underwhelming food, made for an overall disappointing dining experience. I can only hope that the management of this restaurant takes customer satisfaction more seriously in the future and addresses the issues that tarnished our evening.

Please note that my experience may be an isolated incident, and others may have had a different experience at ruby,However, based on my personal encounter, I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to others seeking a memorable...

Absolute scam Will not recommend if you are a tourist!!

We made an online reservation, at the entrance they had no record of this. Thereafter they asked if we’d like to enter the club after dinner, we said sure we would like to see. They told us because there isn’t an equal ratio of males and females in the group they can’t let us in and we would need to pay for a table and minimum spend, even though it was not busy at all We explained that we do not want to drink alcohol and would not need a bottle. The price they told us to enter was 12000 lira, thereafter they said we can pay 4000 (just to enter ) so we paid the price and went to have dinner. After dinner we asked for the bill and were ready to go check out the night club but they started insisting again that we need to pay more and cannot just have red bulls and other soft drinks. By this time we haven’t yet entered the club and requested for our money back rather so we can leave.. after some back and forth arguing they agreed to give the money back, the money came out of the bouncers personal bag once the manager told him to give it to us. Then we noticed 1000 lira is short, they said they can’t give this back to us because they had to bribe people inside to agree to let us in already and some weak excuses Bottom line, while the view is really good the service is terrible, staff is extremely rude and they try to take full advantage of tourists, they would not have given us the money if we didn’t start to fight back. The main bouncer and manager with the maroon jacket are in on this scam and the waiters are all aware. Save yourself the trip and over priced food and leave this one out.. also the reason why they paid “some” money back is because they never want the other patrons to see what is going on and wanted us to leave as soon as possible. Also over charged us on water, changed the prices when the bill came and had some issue with us not wanting any...
