I recently dined at The House Cafe with my husband, and unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. We had previously visited in 2020 and enjoyed our time there, but this visit was disappointing.
Food Quality: The food itself was good. The dishes we ordered were well-prepared and tasted fine, but unfortunately, the positives end there.
Service: The service was extremely poor. It took 40 minutes for anyone to even show up to take our order, which is unacceptable for any dining establishment, especially one where we paid 4,500 Turkish Lira for a two-plate dinner. The staff seemed disorganized and inattentive throughout our meal.
Bathroom Facilities: The state of the bathroom was awful. When I raised this issue with the manager, I was ignored. Instead, an older man with gray hair, wearing a black hat, was called to clean the bathroom. After supposedly cleaning it, he returned and shouted at me, throwing a cleaning stick and pointing towards the bathroom, as if to indicate it was clean now. This was incredibly unprofessional and made the experience even more unpleasant.
Overall Experience: Given the poor service, unclean facilities, and the dismissive attitude of the staff, I would not recommend The House Cafe. There are many other places in the area where you can enjoy a good meal with much better service for a similar or...

While the menu asks guests to inform the staff about any allergies, the response when you do so is disappointing. I was told that nothing on the menu was safe, and their "gluten-free" penne comes with a note saying it’s not suitable for those with actual gluten intolerance. It seems they only accommodate those avoiding gluten as a lifestyle choice, not for medical reasons.
When I visited, they didn’t have the gluten-free penne or gluten-free beer available, even though both were listed on the menu.
To be clear, this is not about any one staff member—I believe the overall attitude of the establishment toward allergies and dietary needs is dismissive and unaccommodating. When I expressed my concerns, the staff became quite defensive rather than collaborative. Our group was just able to have some cheese and drinks.
I’m sharing this to help others with allergies make an informed decision. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected...
Read moreWe visited House Cafe in Ortaköy for breakfast and had a pleasant experience. The staff was accommodating and secured us a lovely table by the sea.
The restaurant is spacious, offering various seating options. There are cozy tables for two near the shore for coffee, and ample indoor and outdoor seating for lunch and dinner.
We ordered scrambled eggs, a rocca pizza, quinoa salad with avocado, and a chicken wrap. While the atmosphere was enjoyable, the prices felt a bit high relative to the quality of the food. The scrambled eggs lacked seasoning, the rocca pizza had a delightful Italian-style dough, but the salad could have used more dressing to enhance its flavor. The chicken wrap was overwhelmed with radish sauce and contained too many lettuce , while the grilled chicken portion was on the smaller side.
Our total bill was 3,380 TL, including service. Overall, it's a nice spot located next to the cruise...
