This is the best selection of the photographs I took last late afternoon into the evening. The focus is on Taksim Square, the Republic Monument, and the Taksim Mosque. Taksim Mosque is a prominent complex in Taksim Square and stands as a testament to contemporary design and religious significance. Designed by Turkish architects in the Art Deco style, the mosque can accommodate up to 3,000 worshippers indoors and a total of 4,000. Construction began on February 17, 2017, and the mosque was inaugurated on May 28, 2021, after four years of meticulous work. The Taksim Republic Monument, erected in 1928, is a centerpiece of Taksim Square and one of Istanbul's most photographed landmarks. This monument commemorates the foundation of the Turkish Republic in 1923 and is a focal point for various public events, including celebrations, protests, and official ceremonies. Taksim Square, where the monument stands, is also the starting point of İstiklal Avenue, Istanbul's most popular pedestrian street, which sees around three million visitors daily. The Republic Monument, or Taksim Cumhuriyet Anıtı, features a sculptural group that honors the founders of the Turkish Republic and other symbolic figures, including representations of the Soviet Union's military aid during the Turkish War of Independence (1919-1923). The monument has two sides: one depicting the Turkish War of Independence and the other symbolizing the modern Turkish Republic, encapsulating the nation's journey from conflict to statehood. I was particularly thrilled that TURKEY Tourism USA used one of my shots on their website. Look at the one with the graphics pasted on the image. That's the one they used on their website.

Taksim Square is a bustling hub of activity in Istanbul, and it's a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to this beautiful city. Located in the heart of the city, Taksim Square is surrounded by shops, restaurants, and cafes, making it a great place to spend an afternoon or evening. Just a short walk from Taksim Square is the beautiful Taksim Mosque. This stunning mosque features a traditional Ottoman design, with intricate details and beautiful architecture. It's a peaceful and serene place to visit, and it offers a unique glimpse into Istanbul's rich history and culture. Overall, Taksim Square and Mosque are both fantastic destinations in Istanbul, and I would highly recommend them to anyone visiting the city. Whether you're interested in shopping, dining, or simply exploring the local culture, you won't be disappointed by what Taksim has to offer.

This mosque is beautiful and huge. I have got the chance to visit this mosque during Friday pray. Even though this mosque is very huge, it even could not accommodate all of the Friday prayers. Prayers from local community, and tourists were all fully occupying the mosque. I even only got space in the shoes storage room. I feel that the mosque's capacity could not withstand thousands of prayers currently. I believe it needs to be upgraded. Besides that, I found that the top level wudhu/cleansing facility was located separately to the main Mosque building. Probably it is a local custom to split wudhu facility with the mosque. But I found this difficult for prayers to enter the mosque after getting their feet wet from wudhu. Probably it needs a clean access/path between the wudhu facility with the Mosque building.

Very good design and its location is so genius. The idea of that mosque dates to the era when Erdoğan was the president of İstanbul municipality and he promised to construct a mosque in that place. The mosque will be an icon of Taksim square. The zone had a need to such a mosque. I remember before when we were praying in that place, we were forced to pray in the street because there was no place inside the small mosque beside the French consulate. So, it is an important project applies the need of having a worship place. The bathrooms are so clean, and it can can contain many people at the same time. The imam of the mosque is a youth who graduated from imam hatip schools, and by the way he is from Yalova the place where I am living. Allah bless everyone who participated in constructing that beautiful mosque.

Imagine having a masjid in Leicester Square, London or Piccadily Gardens, Manchester. Thats what it felt like. Peace and tranquality inside; but absolute carnage outside. Could say that about all the masjids in the world due to the godless, secular, liberal societies we live in, but this just felt different. Its like as if the masjid didnt even belong there and I have been to my fair share of masjids all over Istanbul. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had supported the idea of a mosque in Taksim since becoming Istanbul’s mayor in 1994. The prospect of the new mosque was one element in the Gezi Park protests in 2013. I saw the names of Allah ﷻ, Muhammad ﷺ, Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه, Umar رضي الله عنه, Uthman رضي الله عنه and Ali رضي الله عنه. However, this is the first masjid that I did not see the names of Hassan رضي الله عنه and Hussain رضي الله عنه.

This newly built mosque in Istanbul's iconic Taksim Square has quickly become a landmark. The mosque’s contemporary Ottoman-style architecture is impressive, blending seamlessly into the surrounding vibrant cityscape. At night, the lighting design transforms it into a breathtaking sight; soft, warm lights highlight the mosque’s domes and minarets, creating an artful, almost mystical ambiance that draws the eye from across the square. Inside, the mosque is both spacious and serene, with beautiful decor that reflects modern touches within traditional design. It’s a must-visit for anyone exploring Istanbul, offering both peace and grandeur. Definitely recommended 👌.
