The worst “five star” hotel I have ever been to. 1. The hotel has 0 isolation/sound proofness. The first night the family upstairs had a kid screaming and running around at 1-2 am. I called the reception, they did not do much. The next day I asked for the room to be changed and surprise surprise they gave me a smaller room with a double single bed instead of a king/queen bed as my room was supposed to have. Not only that but the room was on the 5th floor and you could hear every car passing by on the street. 2. I have complained about the downgrade of the room and I was met with a rude and arrogant response that they have already tried to help me and that they gave me “club access” as a bonus. Literally a useless facility that nobody asked for. The only request was a quiet room. Somehow I was supposed to feel bad for complaining after getting this access. I was given such a privilege and I should have been greatful for it. What a joke. Anyway, after I lost my temper and had an argument, I was given the third room. Well, even better! I slept listening to music that was played at a building nearby (even though I was on the 11th floor). Literally sounding like a night club- great isolation. On top of that the ventilation( i think) was making a high pitched noise. in this room I’ve been to 3 star hotels that were much better in that regard. 3. Old and outdated furniture and facilities. The queen/king bed in a 5 star hotel is apparently made out of two single beds joined together. Great huh? That means electricity sockets will be under the bed and half of the bed will be lacking a headboard. Thus, your pillow will be constantly going inbetween the mattress and the wall. Thus, the only available socket is at the desk. Good luck if you have more than one device that needs charging. (Oh some rooms have a usb A socket next to the bed. Great when most new devices use a type c nowadays and you cant use that usb socket). So yes, take turns charging your phones! 4. Half or even more of the staff cant or barely can speak english. I’ll be sure to learn turkish next time, since an international language is not enough here. It was great ordering at the restaurant through gestures. I also left a photo of how a 5 star hotel ceiling looks like. Marriot and the likes please take notes. The only good thing this hotel offers is good food at its restaurants. Charge the batteries with some calories and compensate for the lack of sleep you’ll get. Conclusion: Just stay away. There are way better options in the same area for the same price. Anywhere else in the world this would be a 2 or if generous a maximum 3 star hotel. Dont be fooled by the intercontinental name that they use.

Firstly, I'd give the rating 4.5* if I could, however had to opt for a 4* rating, in part as an IHG member who frequents the hotels under the brand. We spent 5 nights at the establishment in a Club room. The check-in experience at the main reception was sadly similar to a number of reviews where we were asked to wait for '5-10 minutes maximum' while our room was confirmed. Disappointingly, we waited for 30 minutes at 3pm (past the 2pm check-in hour) and I had to chase things up. Gripes aside, the big plus points are the spacious hotel rooms and decent bathrooms though the bathtub was a tad narrow! The capsule coffee maker had to double up as a kettle which I found a tad awkward for supposed 5* establishments. Toiletries were bottled and of high quality. The hospitality in the breakfast restaurant was excellent with attentive staff ; special kudos to Ahmet and Zehra. There was a wonderful array of breads and the selection was fantastic though some repetition was noted throughout the 5 days. Quality of the breakfast was at 5* standard. The Club Lounge on the ground floor was also very pleasant with refreshments available throughout the day. High tea was available though we preferred the evening drinks and refreshments. The latter includes local beverages, beers, wines and popular table liquors (including Raki - a pleasantly tasting aniseed flavoured Turkish drop). Table staff and chefs at the Club Lounge were also very attentive and helpful, thus making us feel very welcomed. The guest relations & club lounge manager, Victoria, also does a good job trying to please guests - she definitely works hard! A fireplace is located in a separate section in the Club Lounge at their smoking area. When it's quiet, it does add a nice warmth on a cool night as we are non-smokers. In terms of location, the hotel is a 3 minute walk to the Taksim metro station, 10-12 minute walk to the Congress centre and 5 minute walk to the Havaist airport transfer bus stop. The area felt safe to us. Last but not least, we did traipse into one of the other nearby French 5* hotel chains near Taksim Square. The ambience was nowhere near Intercontinental (i.e. Intercontinental was far better)! Will we return? - probably yes!!

One of the best hotels I stayed in Istanbul, room was comfortable and the service was outstanding, I was carrying my luggage around 50m from the entrance of the hotel to which I was greeted by two bell boy which hurriedly offered us to carry our luggage. Dinner at the Safran restaurant was also great, the waiter was really kind tend to our every needs, the food was also great. Breakfast was also great as they had various options and great quality, the gymnasium was also very huge that they had to seperate it into different sections. Overall a really great hotel to stay in, with a beautiful lobby.

Very large hotel situated by the lovely Taksim Square. We had an absolutely massive room with great views of the Bospherous. Staff very attentive and polite. Breakfast was good and the lounge is a great way to grab a snack and a drink. The pool and spa is a real highlight, very plush and a great way to cook off in the hot city. Beautiful, intimate roof bar. Would return.
