Belediye Hamamı — Attraction in Kuşadası

I've been to a few Hammams in my time but this was the worst!! I was directed there as I could not find a hammam on a day trip from cruising. It's a very old place as it has obviously been there many years without any modernising. With only a thin short cloth covering my completely naked body, they directed me to a sauna through a room where men customers were walking around after they had been scrubbed and directed for a massage. There were 2 American ladies from the cruise, who were waiting in the sauna. They were anxious about the process as they were not offered a man or woman choice of masseuse. They were called by 2 men who scrubbed and massaged them but luckily they kept their costumes on. I was not given the choice as I asked for a female. They were not given the choice as there was only 1 female working there. We were left too long in the sauna without any timing of when we would be called and it was unbearable. You couldn't leave as the next room was where they were being scrubbed and we would be walking in on them!! The lady who scrubbed and massaged me was calling me Baby and saying Mamma good? Mamma good? Mamma big tip!! The massage was rushed, it was very bad and unprofessional with just fingers poking into the body and not palms and forearms. Not a good experience at all for €45 plus a seperate tip given to the masseuse. The very rude reception lady was very annoyed at being given the €45 charge as she also wanted a tip!! The hamam did not feel right and warm! I asked a member of staff that sauna, hot water and the oval stone you lay on very is cold this is weird and he got a bit defensive saying that this is a historical hamam! Yet I said, it is cold! Then I could not stand and asked for my massage, then the guy accused me doing something about hot water! The masseur asked me if I done anything wrong and apparently he said the hamam is getting cold!

I told him I raised the issue with your colleague an hour ago! He ignored it!

I also very kindly, told the lady waiting at the reception, a manager look a like, these are the issues, please pay attention when your customers complains, she turned her back against me and I had to ask her could you please look at me I am talking to you!

There was an elderly lady at the lounge, left her back in the hamam, she asked the receptionist that she needed her beg more than 3 times but she didn’t understand a single word of English(they ignored her)! Poor lady was so grateful when I stepped in!

Overall horrific frustrating experience! I am still having goose bumps to this day!

Ok, very chaotic inside. Hamam experience was good, face mask was questionable- the old man who was doing it tried removing it with toilet roll, he smelled strongly of cigarettes too.
