Review for the Terrace Bar & Café
When taken to our table, no menus (food or drink) were handed, nor was a drinks order taken. After waiting 15 mins we had to approach the bar for menus. When ordering 3 of our table were disappointed that the fish had already ran out. Food was served rather quickly upon order, although despite the server asking if we wanted salt/vinegar/sauces, they never came back to the table with our request. The food was good quality in general, however the Buttermilk chicken burger did not have any sauces on it, as was described on the menu, and in turn was rather dry. Choice of ice cream flavours was bizarre (Original, Raspberry Ripple, Salted Caramel, Scottish Tablet, Butterscotch, Honeycomb) with the last 4 flavours IMO being very similar, and Raspberry Ripple ran out to make the selection even more refined. Baileys Festive cocktail ingredients ran out, and wasn't going to be served until magically they found more ingredients after my wife made it clear she was disappointed. After finishing desserts, there was no sense of urgency to get us a bill, which normally wouldn't bother, but we had a Theatre show to see, which they were aware of. Eventually I had to ask for bill at the bar, and waited a further 10-15 mins before I was able to catch a server to pay it.
Overall it was a really nice setting and decent food, which was simply ruined by a very poor service. Staff members didn't seem to have a methodical way of ensuring the room was covered, and tended to jump between tables before finishing serving other tables. There was a complete lack of awareness to guests body language and table requirements, which was really...
Read moreSadly I feel that I have to write this review to highlight an extremely unpleasant and embarrassing visit to this theatre. We were a group of seven booked to see ' Bat out of Hell' on Thursday 13th of March. Our main guest was celebrating her 60th birthday, so this was a special treat. After enjoying drinks and a lovely meal, we headed along to the theatre. As we were not the ticket holders, we went to the bar upstairs to wait. The next group, including the birthday girl were in the same boat, however she was greated by a very rude floor supervisor, who announced, in front of all the people queuing, that he was not letting the birthday girl in as she was too drunk, until her ticket arrived?????? She was not even taken aside, and I could see that other guests were apaulled by this supervisor's behaviour . He then announced publically that if any of our party were noisy or sang ( Meat Loaf Songs?????? ), we woulds all be ejected from the theater. The supervisor in question was a gentleman in a suit jacket with ginger hair, who keep referring to the theater as his?? As the theater is owned by Aberdeen Council, I looked up the councillors for arts and culture, he wasn't listed?? I can only assume that he was recently put in the post, and he had not developed ( or been trained) in any customer service or people skills, and was also harboured a revolting attitude. As this incompetence completely spoiled the night for the person celebrating their birthday, I believe a formal complaint is being lodged with Aberdeen council. On a positive note, the show was tremendous, however I would not recommend seeing it at this theatre. Obviously, we will...
Read moreWent to the Ballet last night ...we left it a bit late to book the seats so they were a bit far back, but with some gentle head bobbing..we managed just fine! The bar down the stairs could have done with more staff - a number of the visitors found the experience quite frustrating as there didn't seem to be any clear method for procuring the necessary sweets, drinks or ordering interval delights. Such areas need good well organised, well trained, observant staff to keep the momentum flowing...especially during peak periods. We were unable to buy a programme pre performance as the small stall located at the entrance to the seating area, although stocked, was not staffed. My enjoyment would have been enhanced by the ability to look at the programme pre event and when I needed confirmation of a moment in the performance. It is possible to hear some external noise during performances, a particularly annoying magnox exhaust being a case in point, and we could also hear some scurrying around with trolleys being wheeled into position for the interval refreshments and the staff hurrying to and fro in the area above us. The staff tasked with ushering us towards allocated seating were polite and very good at their job, showing extensive knowledge and understanding of the wants and needs of a diverse client group. We enjoyed a super performance of "The Snow Queen" ...looking forward to a return trip! More staff in the high turnover areas would improve the overall impression and add considerably to an otherwise enjoyable experience....now where's the programme...
