Had an awful dining experience at The Globe, which previously has always been great. Knowing it can be busy I booked a table for 5 a few weeks ago for a pre theatre meal with friends in the restaurant for a nice catch up ahead of a show. Arrived a few mins early and was told our table was not ready so we hung about the sign “wait here to be seated “ . My heart sank when a guy was lifting a chair over the heads of the crowds at the bar and then steered us away from the restaurant & over to the busiest area of the very noisy bar crammed full of merry people with no other diners in sight . I explained I’d booked a table for the restaurant & not the noisy busy bar, & that there were at least 2 tables sitting empty in the restaurant. I was told if I wanted the restaurant I should have specified that on the online restaurant booking & that the empty tables were for bookings specifically for a quiet area. It was not ideal to try and sit & chat with friends in the very noisy bar surrounded by people mostly standing about . It got worse when 2 of the meals arrived and were completely different dishes to what was ordered so our group meal was split basically into 2 sittings . A disastrous experience with a fairly rude member of staff who had a “ shrug his shoulder “ attitude . We did get one meal deducted from the bill due to the kitchen mishap but the overall experience was 1star experience . Staff on site made no effort to check we were comfortable at the worst table in the place. UPDATE- I contacted the Manager Matt who apologised for our experience and offered either a complimentary meal for us all or full refund which was a very...
Read moreUp in Aberdeen for two nights (for a wedding) The Globe offered the perfect location just a few minutes walk from the centre.
The pub was vibrant and busy each evening..and you got the sense that those staying here were pretty regular guests. Specifically those from Norway. Really nice to see.
Our room (top-floor room 7) was larger than most I think- but with a few very annoying disappointments.
I couldn't (for the life of me) get the room TV to work...despite reporting this issue three times (I used to be Senior Marketing Manager for a Japanese Consumer Electronics Company with a U.K. based TV manufacturing plant) - I found myself standing on the coffee table to make sure that their TV connections were correct.
In addition, in-room door furniture was either missing or falling off and disguarded on the floor. The hairdryer blew within 60 seconds of my wife using it. To save time and hassle (and probable lack of staff intervention/in-action) I simply swapped it out from room 5 downstairs which was recently cleaned and vacant. When you have no faith in the staff...you're pretty much forced to get things done yourself. That's exactly how it felt here. You're essentially your own! Just the way I like it.
Subsequently, room 5 now has a faulty hairdryer! 😀
Thank you for the iron and board! It was a lifesaver!
We only ate food here at breakfast time but it was superb and the staff are extremely friendly!
The establishment was absolutely alright...but if I'd have stayed here any longer than two nights - it wouldn't driven me absolutely bonkers! I'd have been having some serious words.
This place could do so...

The Global is right on the door step of the theatre by a minute or so. So perfect for such a occasion.
We arrived to a bright warm smallish bar/ reception and a young man at the desk.
Unfortunately there was some type of problem with the rooms. While the 'behind the scenes) was going on to sort any issues, we had been offered complimentary drinks. A lovely guest ale and a Laphroaig 😍 shortly the young man appeared with more apologies and the. Offer of two double rooms at same price.
The rooms are lovely. My was the Mackenzie room, large with fulls amenities, tea coffee breakfast tray. Large closet, lots of lighting a huge bonus of Windows that could open even if it was too allow the -10 snow driving air in. A large desk and wall mounted TV and spacious ensuite bathroom with full bath.
A very comfortable sleep, great location if your theatre bound. And lovely staff and a bar with (had not tried) lovely looking...
