St Joseph's Church Sailortown — Attraction in Belfast

Lovely little church - sadly now surrounded by modern buildings erected as part of Belfasts City Quays regeneration scheme.

Looking out from the Titanic Musuem it must be the oldest building in the area - if you can spot it amongst all the new office blocks and flats on the opposite bank.

It has some colourful Victorian stain glass windows that have somehow survived the years of neglect the church has sustained - at least until recently.

The Sailortown Regeneration Project now hopes to renovate the church and use it as a local community resource.

They obviously need funding - so it seems a pity that saving the church seems to have been largely overlooked by the businesses in the area, and the city authorities.

Hopefully they will eventually succeed in achieving their goal of restoring the fabric of the church, renovating the interior for community use.

Was a pleasure to attend the Men's Health Day at St Joseph's in the Sailortown area of Belfast. All the Volunteers were very friendly and welcoming. The gentleman who gave the talk when on the tour of Sailortown was very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. Paul O'Kane gave a very personal and insightful talk on the importance of men not neglecting their personal health. Tea, coffee and lunch was on tap for everyone. Love going down and seeing this old building with the old train tracks going past, together with the old pub a few doors up "P.J Brennan & Sons". They all give you a real sense of Belfast's history. And the old photos on this page bring it to life. I hope the work is completed soon for all to see...
