28th June 2025 Macy Gray was her usual excellent self .She may be as mad as a box of frogs but so talented. We were all here to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her debut album. The crowd were on there feet most of the night dancing along to this wonderful set . Macy loves to get the crowd involved and she does this with such ease. The town hall is a wonderful building which Birmingham Council haven't manage to destroy yet and all the staff are friendly and helpful. There is a bar but I have no idea on prices as I don't drink at gigs ,but plenty of people were
14th March 2025 A brilliant night of comedy from the very funny Jenny Eclair . She told the story of her life which was interesting and funny. She started the show by handing a tin of biscuits to pass along the front row a she said these were the main people to keep happy as she could only see them ( they were very tasty ). We had a great time listening to her stories. The audience went home very happy with a smile on there faces.
28th February 2025 Another visit to this wonderful venue, this time to see Elkie Brookes perform to a sold out crowd and boy was she good.Elkie is eighty years young and still struts around the stage doing her stuff. Her voice is as ever faultless and the crowd loved it . A wonderful set was thunderously applauded in what is her farewell tour ,but judging by her energy and love of performing she may hopefully change her mind . I for one hope this is the case
A beautiful building to see Scritti Politti perform a...
Read moreMy review is an odd one as we didn’t attend any shows. New Years Eve we travelled from Leicester to Birmingham simply to do the ‘reindeer trail’ as my youngest son, on the spectrum, likes to do them and likes to finish a trail, it’s his thing. We take photos of each spot on a trail. One of the reindeer had been moved from outside in the square to inside this building. We were limited for time and this building was closed till 11am, we finished trail and returned at 11 and were barred from entering. The reindeer was about 5 yards away but no, I asked if I could take a photo from were we stood but no, the security guard refused, arms folded and stood directly in front of me. He told us there were children inside the building (not in foyer, not where we could physically see them) and so we couldn’t go in. This was odd as not sure what my sons and I had to do with the kids that were somewhere in the building. Made me feel uncomfortable. I said I’d like his name as I was putting in a complaint and he called his manager, I explained to this chap and he let us in to take our photo, very quickly, literally took about 5 steps into the foyer then out again. We’d had such a great day but this, this kinda for a moment put it on a downer. Should have left the sculpture outside maybe till the end of...
Read moreBirmingham Town Hall is a concert hall and venue for popular assemblies opened in 1834 and situated in Victoria Square, Birmingham, England. It is a Grade I listed building.
The hall underwent a major renovation between 2002 and 2007. It now hosts a diverse programme of events including jazz, world, folk, rock, pop and classical concerts, organ recitals, spoken word, dance, family, educational and community performances, as well as annual general meetings, product launches, conferences, dinners, fashion shows, graduation ceremonies and broadcasts.
The building was created as a home for the Birmingham Triennial Music Festival established in 1784, the purpose of which was to raise funds for the General Hospital, after St Philip's Church (later to become a cathedral) became too small to hold the festival, and for public meetings.
Two sites were considered by the Birmingham Street Commissioners for the construction of a concert hall in the city; Bennetts Hill and the more expensive Paradise Street site. The latter was chosen and a design competition was launched which resulted with the submission of 67 designs including one by Charles Barry, whose design for the King Edward's School on New Street was then under...
