Easyhotel, anything but easy.|A bad experience with customer service that has left me with the real prospect of having nowhere to stay in Birmingham and out of pocket, and I don’t recommend them.|They may be fine as a place to stay but in our experience, when something goes wrong Easyhotel are anything but easy.|We booked a room at the Easyhotel in Birmingham, cheap, no windows, non-refundable (we’re on a budget) and in 2025 this should be straightforward. Booking was, via @bookingcom except when the receipt came through it stated that we need photo ID. There was no mention of this on the booking page that we could find, and never before come across this for UK domestic travel.|No problem, just contact them and explain the situation.|Their suggestion that I just bring a passport or driver’s license in response to ‘I don’t have photo ID’ demonstrates a level of crass stupidity that would make an AI wince. It was clear they didn’t care. They were more concerned they could be liable and may have to refund the money as we pointed out that this was not CLEARLY stated on the booking form. |Apparently, it IS on the booking form – it only took them 2 days to find it, it’s that explicit. Remember this is customer service, they should know these things. It’s right down at the very bottom of the long page in a section entitled HOUSE RULES and easily missed. It does say that photo ID is required for check in (it doesn’t say whose or what is acceptable.)|I actually have a photo ID but don’t think of it as such, though it should be – name, photograph and was issued by the GLA (after having provided suitable proof of age and address.) When I enquired as to if this would be acceptable, they seemed unsure - they seemed to think it was digital. I have sent them a photograph of it to see if they would accept it but I have heard nothing back at all.|Where they have been good, and have to give them credit for this, top rating, is making sure that they aren’t liable for anything. Resolving the issue? No interest at all. |No one is perfect, we all make mistakes. How companies work to resolve those mistakes is the difference between recommending them or avoiding them. |Easyhotel is one to...
Read moreI stayed one night. I’ve given a 4 star rating for the room, and 5 stars for the service and location. Overall, I’ve just about gone for a 5 stars despite minor issues with the room. The reason for this is that this is a 3 star budget hotel, so I’m basing the 5 star rating on the fact that, for such a hotel, it is excellent. So bear that in mind while you read the review. So, let’s start with the room - sorry I didn’t take photos this time. It’s a decent size, there’s no clothes storage space (not that I needed it), the single bed mattress was fairly comfortable, the bathroom is small and the sink was blocked making the sink bowl fill up with water which took a while to go down. Anyway, the big pluses are the excellent, powerful, roomy shower (which takes up most of the bathroom) and the powerful toilet. It’s a little close to the wall but it’s fine. Overall, the bathroom was clean, as was the bedroom. A decent level of cleanliness. Now, I stayed in a first floor room above the Turtle Bay bar. Thankfully they close at 11pm so the noise and vibrations stopped soon thereafter, but there was a bit of outside noise and vibration coming from some other nearby night spot - it wasn’t very bad though, and I was still able to sleep pretty comfortably. The location is perfect - a stone’s throw from New Street station and 5 minutes walk from the High Street. Now, I save the best for last - the service. In particular, I’d like to praise Anjali for her friendliness and helpfulness. However I want to make clear that all the staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. They also responded very promptly to my pre-stay email query. So as I’ve said, as far as 3-star budget hotels go, this is a 5 star...
Read morestarting off with the only positive - reception staff were lovely and helpful. we needed more towels and pillows for our room and when we asked the staff on reception they were extremely friendly, approachable and made sure we had exactly what we needed. our poor experience was by no means the fault of the staff, who were wonderful the entire time we were there.
while this is a budget hotel, i had a massively different experience than the manchester location with the same room type; we booked a double room for two and if i’m honest, there’s barely enough room for one. there’s absolutely no walking space and nowhere to store a suitcase without having to walk on top of it to get to the glass walled bathroom, which also had a leak from the shower that caused a puddle on the floor of the main portion of the room. we unfortunately discovered this leak when one of our suitcases got wet and some of our belongings suffered water damage.
the room was also unbearably hot with the temperature not going below 17° and absolutely no cold air coming out of the vents when the air condition unit was (allegedly) on. it was an absolute sweatbox. it also kept turning itself off at night constantly despite the sign on the door saying it wouldn’t after i believe 6pm, to the point where it was disturbing our sleep as we kept waking up due to the heat.
while being close to the train station was convenient, being surrounded by clubs and bars was horrible and we were concerned for our safety travelling to and from the hotel as we were followed and harassed on both saturday and sunday by rowdy drunk men. would NOT recommend for travelling females,...
