A shame to Birmingham Museum! If I can give 0 star, I would! I took my friends to Edwardian Tea Room due to the good reviews on Google and we are left feeling disgusted! With the location, I expected that it will be expensive but £8.95 for a cream is still extortion. The scones is tiny and because they have been microwaved, they are very chewy. Strawberry jam is the cheapest jelly you would find. The cake feels like standard frozen cake you get from wholesaler and not freshly made. But the worst thing is hygiene! We asked for plates and they came with butter still haven’t been washed off. We have to return the tea strainer because the tea still haven’t been washed off it (please see the photo). My cup of coffee has coffee sticking all over the plate. The metal teapot (I know that it’s the style) is rusty and has hold on it. Don’t even bother to order panini. Panini came pre-packed and the staff just throw the package all over the counter. There is no order, no hygiene & no standard and this place locates right inside Birmingham Museum. I am ashamed to bring my friends who came to Birmingham for the first time to this place. Last but not least, trust other low review because they’re all correct. You wait on the queue for 15-20mins and then wait another almost 30 minutes for your drink. I don’t blame the staff. The staff looks like they’re overworked and understaffed. whoever the manager is, they clearly should have hired more people to cope with the high volume of customers rather than providing bad customer service, low quality food with absolutely no hygiene standard while extorting you for such a ridiculous amount of money. An update: 1 hour later after we came back, we have had stomachache and I’ve thrown up. I think this place really needs to be inspected for hygiene

Waited a full 25 minutes for 3 English Breakfast teas and a hot chocolate (which came after 10 minutes), and that was only after waiting 15 minutes before complaining as clearly orders after our were being sent out. The Hot Chocolate was cold (the clue is in the name that it is meant to be hot), and then a server turned up with another one before the teas finally showed up (one of the tea pots was leaking it made a mess of the table, which we tried to clean up), so either I was given someone else's or they made two thinking the entire order was missed. It really shouldn't be difficult to handle such a simple order, smacks of total disfunction in the operations. Certainly won't be going here again, really poor. I hate slating places and very rarely ever do (check my reviews if you don't believe me), however, this is probably the worst run tea room I've ever been to, that vast majority I give praise to, it pains me to write this review, but I have to be honest with readers.

Definitely worth a visit. The venue itself is lovely, as described an Edwardian tea room. With an impressive high glass ceiling and beautiful tiled floor; styled with various chairs and sofa's it's comfy and cosy to enjoy an afternoon tea. The afternoon tea was really tasty; variety of finger sandwiches, miniature scones with all the trims and mini cakes all served on what is can only describe as a refurbished drawer. A tad too quirky for me but each to their own. Then there was the tea... Loose leaf English breakfast tea... Was amazing and plentiful!! All together it was a lovely setting and scrummy food which we needed time to recover from. This place is great for a date, a catch up with friends and some personal time with tea and cake. Eat, be cultured and well fed.

To say we were disappointed would be a bit of an understatement - we feel tricked, robbed and very let down. A family event was booked here as we love the museum and the ETR, we also wanted to support a local business. In the lead up the family were told a series of things would be done/would be available on the day - most of which didn't occur. The organisation on the day was a bit of a shambles and resulted in the guests unceremoniously being chucked out at 10:30 which meant guests who had not seen each other for years where unable to say bye. To add insult to injury the costs of the drinks available at the event were eye wateringly expensive - think £4.20 for a bottle of Becks or £8.40 for a pint - and the beer we were promised on tap was "not available". Captive audience being taken full advantage of it would seem. The venue have since denied all knowledge of ever stating that beer would be available on tap despite offering to buy in barrels of the drinks the family would like. The venue even managed to "misplace" an item sent by family not able to attend despite being involved in the ordering and delivery of the item. The family have been charged for items not received, been charged for drinks not made available, been charged for food not eaten in full as it was whisked away by the staff, been fobbed off, lied to and basically treated appallingly. The venue have refused point blank to refund any money or even offer a percentage back on the bill or even apologize. The most the venue have offered (which has still not materialized weeks later) is a voucher for a free afternoon tea. We are quite frankly disgusted and will never, ever recommend this as a venue to anyone. It's put a huge dampener on the memory of the event and we feel taken...
