Making money out of Hipsters Okay, I'm 49 but I'm not an old git and always happy to try new places. However, this bar just seems to be hanging on to the Hipster-effect and charging top whack for minimal food and a basic environment. I'm sure there are some people that think a cold, stark concrete bar with various wooden seats and worn-out floors is trendy, which is why I'm sure they get away with charging what they do. So, to be fair, we didn't eat, but the food that was coming out was quite small, which seems to be the general comments on here. I got my Google Translate app out and found that "Maple Glazed Bacon Ribeye, Mushy Peas, Fried Hens Egg, Fries" translates from Hipster into English as "Ham, Egg, Chips and Peas". Unfortunately the price doesn't translate - it's still £17 ! The bar setup wasn't that great. Although they have a huge selection of beers, the main serving part has a great big black pipe (that all the beer pipes go through) that is just at eye level so you can't see the bartender. Everyone was trying to look under it or over it. Beers were okay but not great; don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying premium if it's worth it, but this place wasn't.

Visited here on our first foray back into Birmingham for about a year and a half.. This was our final call before returning to New Street Station to get our train back. What a place, one of those places where you walk in and think we should have come here earlier and its such a pity we have already eaten.. A good selection of ales mainly from Purity Brewing but other interesting beers too.. Unfortunately we only had time to try a couple of halves and some scratchings and Salted Almonds.. Beer and snacks were awesome and staff incredibly friendly. Menu looked good too. Time here all too brief as we had to head off to the train.. but we shall definitely be back here and spend more time.

Best Pub/Bar meal I've had in a long time Starters:

Hot & Spicy BBQ Chipolatas - Could've been more spicy....but while tasting that good and having them melt in your mouth, I didn't care.

Small Mac & Cheese - Tasted like cheese heaven, pasta was cooked just right too.

Main:

The Special Pork Burger - Wow, amazing, never thought I'd ever say this....but probably one of the best burgers I've had in ages....and I'm a huge beef fan. The burger itself was delicate and juicy and was topped with slow cooked pulled pork, all held together with a soft brioche bun....lovely, just lovely!

Chicken Kiev - Best Kiev I've tasted...granted most of them have been frozen, but what an experience to taste a freshly made Chicken Kiev. The chicken itself was a free range breast of chicken on the bone, covered in breadcrumbs and a "just the right amount" of garlic sauce stuffed inside.

The fries that accompanied the mains were extremely good....they were freshly cut (slightly thicker then the norm) with the skins on, crispy on the outside while maintaining extreme softness and taste on the inside. They tasted like the fries I've had in steak houses in the states.

Desert: Bacchus Kriek Alaska - Basically their version of a Baked Alaska. We shared this as we were still full from our previous mountain of food....but we wish we had one each it was that good. Meringue was sticky and hot, while on the inside the biscuit was crunchy and the ice-cream cold and soft....perfect combination.

All the above dishes were excellent, arrived in good time and were hot, good portion size and most importantly were extremely tasty, the way all the flavours worked together...especially with the Special Pork Burger were brilliant, very flavoursome, it's nice to see a different choice of food on a menu instead of the norm.

Service was very friendly and efficient, couldn't fault the staff.

Came here first back in January for a drink as my friends and I love UBU and Longhorn, so what better place to come and try it....direct from the brewer themselves. The ale and the IPA were brilliant (as you'd expect) and the bar staff were very knowledgeable on the other beverages that they had....excellent bar service and variety of beers.

After my first visit I thought I'd come back and try the food....glad I did, truly brilliant.

Highly recommended this place for drinks, lunch and dinner. We will definitely be going back on a regular basis for...

Food was excellent, however, when we visited on the 13th of January 2018, there was a group of 16 of us. 12 of us had pre-booked and pre-ordered, and another 4 came along as extras. This meant that the waitress that served us only had to take 4 extra orders that night. Somehow, two of the medium rare steaks were brought out as rare, with no apology, we had them, as to not be difficult. Another person was brought fish instead of chicken, with no apology offered and told 20 mins was added to his wait time. And then lastly, an entire meal was missed from the order, and of course zero apology was offered yet again. Instead at this point the waitress began arguing with organiser of our meal, who couldn't have been more pleasant and amenable to the turn of events. Both I and the organiser have worked in the service industry for over 10+ years combined. We were both very disappointed with the attitude of the server. We are aware of how easily mistakes can be made, at any stage of the experience, but a little diplomacy goes a long way. We didn't want discounts or free drinks, just the empathy of our server that our experience had issues.

I have no idea how she managed to get a £50 tip from our table. As you can imagine, her attitude changed immediately when presented with this "service charge". Food was excellent, and our other male server was also excellent.

I would recommend this place overall, as one bad server should not reflect an...
