My mum and I visited on Sat night, arrived around 7.30pm and waited in the queue for half an hour before seated. As all the roast meat were already cooked, they were just sliced into portions so food arrived very quickly. Strangely the duck and preserved vegetable noodle isn’t on the menu but is on the board. I only paid attention to the board because I saw others eating the noodle and I wondered why I couldn’t find it on the menu. We ordered roast duck, roast Chao Sui and duck soup noodle. They are all very oily and salty. We didn’t have plain rice so it made it even harder to finish the salty meat. The cafe is vey small and cramped for maximum seating capacity. You sit very close to the next table so there is no privacy. There is also no toilet. Unexpectedly later that evening, both my mum and I got diarrhoea. I have very robust guts and I can’t even remember when I had upset tummy last time in my adulthood. So I’m very surprised I got diarrhoea. We didn’t eat anything else out of ordinary that day so it’s definitely linked to this restaurant. This is very disappointing. Food hygiene should be the top priority. I wonder if it’s because these roast meat are cooked well beforehand but left in room temperature for long time waiting to be carved and served and perhaps not covered from insects? Later on I checked Food Standards Agency website and this restaurant hygiene is rated 1 out of 5 with inspection at June 2024! Health is the most important thing and I don’t want to risk another episode of diarrhoea so definitely won’t visit again. This is a cash only business to avoid paying tax which is annoying and unfair especially in the current economic climate. The government should really crack down on this type of...
Read moreSummary: Very friendly waitresses and relaxed/cheap and cheerful atmosphere, clean, and cosy. Very decent portions. I've tried their crispy pork, roast duck, steamed chicken, rice, udon and HK style milk tea.
Food: Great HK style iced milk tea - while there was ice, it was creamy, full of flavour and not overly sweet. Great roast pork - crispy skin, tender meat and melt in your mouth fat (I don't normally eat the fat). Would be elevated to space if they could source slightly gamier/porkier pork (!). Great udon texture - smooth with a springy bite. Ok broth - pretty simple; might be soy sauce based with a bit of sweetness. Would really benefit from some spices! Didn't really enjoy their roast duck (sort of flavourless and the skin was limp. I would say that's standard for around here as I've yet to find crispy skin on roast duck so I can't really begrudge them); steamed chicken (flavourless, though tender) or rice...
Read moreIt's been in our bucketlist for some time to try this restaurant but every time we passed by, it was always full. Until we went recently quite early on a Saturday. Fifteen minutes after being seated, the crowds began pouring in steadily. Talk about beating the crowd. Now we understand. This is one of, if not the best one we've tried so far specialising in roasted meats. Huge servings and authentic (it's almost like being transported to Hong Kong), very flavourful roasted duck and soy sauce chicken, as well as crispy pork belly cooked to perfection (all very tender and succulent). And its best-kept secret? Its home-made chili sauce! It's the perfect sauce for the dishes! Highly recommended and two thumbs up! Oh, and it helps if you see elderly Chinese ordering to-go -- a great sign you're getting the real deal. You just have to be patient when queueing up and plan...
