Upon booking we knew the park was closed but figured it was still an exciting place to visit and stay for our daughter. We visited here and chose to stay at the fairy castle and paid £49 for the birthday package (besides the character visit it definitely wasn't worth it, no cutlery or plates given to enjoy the birthday cake provided! So £50 for a 2 min visit, £5 Tesco cake, two banners, a small teddy and a small balloon). As there was no way to enjoy the birthday cake it ended up being left there. While we were here there was the enchanted light trail on at the same time. This meant for the duration of our evening in the castle we had members of the public trying to get into our accommodation (despite having the birthday banner on the door). We reported this to a member of staff in a high vis jacket who said yeah it's just because it's on the light trail. We went out for dinner in the restaurant - £14 for a warmed up burger patty and chips! Ordered the chilli burger but didn't arrived with everything listed and had to ask for jalapeños. As people were coming and going throughout our meal to enjoy the light trail and to make popcorn it meant the door was being left open and it was freezing!! Anyway we were there to enjoy our daughter's 4th birthday and knew there was a kids disco. Went over the courtyard area to where the kids disco was, it was in darkness. We waited 10 mins after it was meant to start and my partner went over to reception or the restaurant to ask when the disco was happening as there was nobody there and it was already 10 mins after the start time, the young member of staff said somebody would be sent over shortly. This did happen a while after but due to it being so much later than it should have no other families were there so it completely lacked atmosphere and we ended up leaving. We went back to the accommodation which is when we really saw just how dirty (especially the bathroom) was, mould in corners, evidence of a leak from the bathroom ceiling, toilet roll holder broken off the wall, dirty dented bin. Mould on bathroom wooden panelling and a huge area of dust by the door. The remote controls were filthy with dust too. The worst part of the experience was when we rolled back the middle bunk for our daughter we found a small bug, it was under the folded up duvet and there was no window in that little area so I dread to think how long it had been there. We moved the duvet and found an even larger bug! After 3 more attempts of people trying to get in and hanging off the door handle we were starting to get frustrated and our daughter was too scared to sleep. Not what you want after a 3 hour drive and a cold evening meal! We started to confront people who were trying to get in and ask them to leave the doors and handle alone. Whilst this may have been out of the staffs control I would expect to have been pre warned or for the marshall I spoke too to have been a little more sympathetic. As pictured too the "castle" is a tiny metal container and didn't look at all how it was advertised on the website. It was green with mould/water marks, the decking area tiny and pond completely overgrown - again I've added photos of this. When we checked out the young girl on reception didn't ask how our stay was and safe to say we didn't bother to unpack or sound off on here. All the staff here are very young and it wouldn't have been fair to have taken it out on them to explain just how disappointed we were. I contacted Gullivers Land first of all in the hope to resolve our complaint without resorting to leaving a negative review and was offered a complimentary park visit which is not at all what we would like. Our accommodation lacked privacy, so having people keep attempting to get in while trying to relax and the fact the whole area needed a thorough clean both inside and out I don't feel like anybody would be inclined to take the offer of a free visit that will still require 3 hours of driving and cost of...
Read moreThis place is extremely tired and in need of some serious TLC, to be fair, I don't think that any degree of TLC will sort this place to any decent standard. The park is dirty, and the volume of flies and wasps is also of concern. Very disappointing experience, long wait times for absolutely poor excuse for rides, the rides in my opinion are a collection of very old fun fair rides that have passed their sell by date. One of the rollercoaster cars was covered with gaffer tape, please see attached picture. You can not get away with this standard by calling the place an old fashioned theme park... I would argue the staff are very unhelpful, especially the ones manning the rides, which adds to a further poor experience, as well as what appears to be a serious staff shortage, with many of the rides operating with only one staff member. This park needs the attention of the suitable authorities to look into the running of this park, especially given other better funded and better run parks have had serious incidents. I witnessed a number of questionable practices, as well one child being injuried through lack of staff, and in my opinion the incident could have been completely avoided. While on the subject of the staff, many of the staff look disinterested, disengaged, and their personal hygiene also is questionable, with many looking like they reside at the park, and sleep in the wilderness daily... Overall this is a poor experience. The owners and managers of this attraction should take a serious look at how they run this park. The Aladdin show is a complete joke, with poor acting as well as completely confusing story line. Also your charged extra for high afternoon tea, which is an absolute disappointment, service included a few biscuits from some where like the poundshop, and some still frozen cakes from somewhere like frozen farmfoods or Iceland. This was served in a dirty cafe, which was still recovering from a busy lunch service. This was a terrible experience. What are you seriously doing??? Are you seriously expecting people to palette this? Get out of business if your NOT serious about the entertainment industry... It is not right to take peoples money and then provide a substandard experience. The owners of this park should be held accountable. My advice is to stay clear of this park, and avoid it. Go to better run and staffed venues of other theme parks. We made this mistake, and we will never get the day back, and I am out of pocket to the tune of almost £100, and more importantly I carry the mental scars of the torture endured while attending this park. God help anyone who attends this so called theme park. This is an accident waiting to happen. I have to seriously wonder how anyone can give this place a 5 star review??? Did you attend the same park I did, and have these people actually attended any other professionally run theme parks? Clearly not, or I can assume their quality of life is questionable? I struggled to understand or comprehend how anyone can review this...
Read moreGullivers world is advertised as a theme park for younger families, and this is correct - most rides are great for smaller kids, but not too small... as most rides you are expected to accompany your child on the ride. There really wasn't many small kids rides where you popped them in their seat and they did the ride themselves (the only two I can think of was the deputy drop ride and the horse ride). This isn't a massive problem unless you come to the park with more kids than adults or if your an adult that doesn't actually like to go on rides!
On our visit we got there just before it opened, and they allow you to come into the central square to be welcomed by an introduction to the park and some music and bubbles! As soon as it reaches opening time you are free to head off into the park. It's not a massive park, perhaps about 25 rides in total, but the fact that it's not massive means the kids aren't walking a long way from ride ro ride etc. Queues on our visit were fairly short in most instances (we went early season to make best use of the early season discount tickets, which at £15 per ticket we felt was good value!)
On our trip the kids decided to go on the monorail first - caution... its a peddle monorail, which we really hadn't prepared for after being sat in car for quite a while!! Two to a car, and because the peddles are set in an adult position its the adult that does all the peddling! It did give us a laugh. Other rides are in no way as exhausting as this one!
I asked the kids what their favourites were, they highlighted the Grand Prix racer roller coaster, the hot air balloon ride and the indoor roller coaster in JCB area. My son who loves trains was a bit disappointed that the train ride was very short and didn't go around the park or anything (as we was walking round there was old track in various places so I suspect it may have done at some point!) A couple of rides were a little disappointing, the gullivers story ride most notably as I guess we was expecting to hear a brief version of the story but it was just a series of rooms set up.
I can't really comment on food / drink... we popped into the castle food court but it was pretty busy so we grabbed some bits from car for lunch (you can get your hand stamped - pop to car, and then come back in again).
Most of the staff seemed pretty good and friendly, couple of them seem to have had a bit of a bad day and were perhaps a little snappy at people who were not listening (put seat belt on wrong or something!) On way out staff thanked us for coming as they were tidying which was nice. The park itself could do with a spot of touching up in places, but not unexpected I guess. We were impressed with how clean / litter free it was round majority of park.
We were at the park all day, so 100% got our moneys worth and kids would like to revisit - so we may come again if in the area...
