A group of five of us booked the room 'Sword in the Throne', upon arriving in the evening we met with Keith, who explained his role and the rules of the room. We commenced our session and managed to beat the room with 10 or so minutes to spare. Below I have included more information on the two key aspects of the booking:
• The room itself • Keith's running of the room
This particular room was described as relatively difficult prior to us going in. Keith explained that the 'raven' in the room would be used to communicate with us throughout, which was achieved through a monitor in the room that has messages pop up (typed by the person running the room).
At first we thought this would take us away from the experience, but after 15 minutes or so, we found ourselves glued to the monitor to see if we were on the right path! This system does not provide any key clues to the room, unless you specifically ask the raven for a clue. Instead, it simply provides confirmation that you are on the right track, which was a useful tool as the room is quite small and involves a lot of moving parts.
The puzzles within the room were very engaging and fun, they were creative and well thought out so that each one felt different in its own way. No spoilers, but there is a particular puzzle that was a lot of fun and even a little unnerving (not in a bad way!).
We successfully escaped the room with 10 minutes to spare, using 1 clue along the way. It was a seamless experience from puzzle to puzzle, and didn't confuse us enough to send us down the wrong path. On the one instance we were overthinking a puzzle, the raven chimed in and let us know our error, and we reverted our thought process. All in all, it was a very fun room that required teamwork, critical thinking, and an open mind during each segment.
Now on to our room host, Keith. Keith was engaging from the moment we met with him, he was clear in his communication, and informed us of everything we needed to know from the get go.
During the session, whilst he was the raven, Keith kept it calm and even chimed in with the banter of the room when he could. This helped us engage a lot with the room and just added to the fun. At the end of the session, he kindly took a picture of us and sent it to the party booker. Keith was a fun part of the session, and made it even more enjoyable with his direction and participation.
All in all, this was a really fun room and great experience for all five of us. We would definitely recommend this room to others, and will be back to try out the 'Star Quest' room after Keith's recommendation.
Thanks Keith, and thanks Escape Live for...
Read moreBetween myself and my team (all thirty somethings) we did all three rooms that Escape Live Chemsford has to offer, starting with Sword in the Throne. Thoroughly enjoyed this headscratcher of a challenge, which had loads of original puzzles I've never seen before in other rooms. Quite a tough room which our team of four people needed 50+ minutes to get out of, maximising the enjoyment! Next came Star Quest, stuck on a futuristic ship out of control and heading into a black hole. Another good room with some different types of puzzles. Lastly we did Escape the Jungle. This is geared more towards families and the decor is amazing with loads of effort gone into the props and the walls. The puzzles again offer something different, with loads of interactive sounds and lights to keep you on the right path and let you know how you're getting on. These are three really good rooms, for those more experienced players, Sword in the Throne provides a real challenge, Star Quest is another great room with inventive props and new puzzles, and families will love Escape the Jungle. Read moreWe had a fantastic time at Escape Live Chelmsford on Easter Sunday 2025. It was an impromptu family outing for the four of us (Mum (me), Dad, 18-year-old son, 15-year-old daughter), and I called re: availability because you can't book online on the day. The staff were so helpful and said that Keith, our Games Master, would kindly come in especially to run a game for us at 7.30pm. We played Sword in the Throne and Keith was brilliant. We didn't need any clues, despite us being a bit dim about something near the beginning, and Keith kept us on track with lots of amusing banter. I thought we might bicker but we worked well together and got out with 12 mins 56 secs to spare. I'm so glad I called that day -- it was a fun family outing. We've made some great memories and have a funny and different family photo...
