RE: World Cup Semi Final: So I've seen other reviews on here and other places that only gave this establishment one star - DO NOT TAKE ANY NOTICE OF THEM! I was sat behind these very rude people, and although they claim the manager was rude she was in fact a model of professionalism dealing with these very disrespectful, very childish people! One of them even had the audacity to go into the pub and steal a leather sofa seat cushion to sit on outside! They were in the gangway where the staff had to walk through to serve food so they had to move every five seconds anyway to make way for the staff - that's the main reason the manager asked them to move so that her staff could do their jobs!

I always go to this pub to watch sports games because of the professional, friendly atmosphere. They will do everything in their power to accommodate those who wish to enjoy a sports game with the minimum amount of fuss and they try to cater for everyone - hence the manager introduced such things as table service and even got something for a lady to sit on who hadn't booked a table but had a bad leg, all to ensure everyone has the best time possible in a positive, safe environment. Unfortunately it isn't possible to please those who have an inflated sense of entitlement, but for the rest of us rational, normal human beings who just want to watch football in a decent pub The Plough is the...

The service was friendly, the beers were good and food seemed very nice, (although i didn't eat several of our large group did), all at reasonable prices. Some outside space for when the sun is shining, and all in all a decent pub - certainly bucks the usual trend for disappointing railway taverns!

Have been back a few times since, and all in all pretty good and definitely good value. However, service has been very variable - sometimes waiting 5+ minutes at the bar whilst staff insist putting away a couple of clean glasses is more important than serving waiting customers, (on one occassion two staff doing this whilst no-one served). At other times I've been acknowledged and served as I approached the bar from the door, and had my drink in hand less than a minute after walking through the door (always by the same...

If I could give no stars I could the little bar maid with glasses .oh dear . I was waiting to collect a friend from thr train St.he was late. So I popped in to keep warm and had half a flat lager .had one hour to kill. The jobsworth barmaid refused to serve me . For reasons s I do not understand. I think it was jealousy. Saying I had had enough lol. I didn't care for another drink.but the point was she basically started an argument put of thin air .I have ran restaurants myself and if I treated customers the way she did. There would be no customers!!!. I will write to your head office. How sad u have a member of staff like that. Last Monday evening. I told her to get a life as clearly she was very miserable woman. I will never go back ever. And tell as many as I can not to...

Visited the plough with family for my first day off before Christmas! Brilliant decision we’ve made. I work in hospitality myself and I couldn’t be happier with the standard of service from Crina who greeted us pleasantly on arrival and made us feel welcome and at home. She is a credit to the business and handled the afternoon incredibly by herself on the bar along whilst multi-tasking. Foh and boh from my guess seeing her go from laptop to welcoming host when needed. Very impressed and we will be back later today as a result

Either you want to watch football in the weekend or to enjoy your evening after work during the week, this place is amazing. Central situated, with a garden on the back, behind the noise of the city, The Plough has a good vibe, excellent staff and service. Big variety of drinks and food, served by friendly and positive people. Crina is one of the girls who’d come around the tables and makes sure you’re served in time with a firendly attitude. For us she was very prompt and we were feeling excellent at The Original Plough.

On balance I'm awarding the Plough (or Original Plough as it's currently known) 4🌟. Had a full irish breakfast just now which was excellent, generously sized exceptional value. Good choice of drinks on the bar (although my first choice out of stock today). Tried half each of Timothy Taylor Landlord and St Austell Tribute. Both were OK, not spectacular but not off either. At least at served at the correct temperature not warm. So I think 4🌟 is a fair and balanced rating on todays visit (dd 25.8.22)
