A variety of beautiful woodland walkways (depending on where you access the hill) lead to some of the most stunning views of Edinburgh. Some of the paths are quite steep but there are plenty of simpler ones meandering through the woods. The hill features a lovely walled garden, courtesy of Friends of Corstorphine Hill and also hosts part of the John Muir Walkway. The tower on the summit was built in 1871 as a memorial to Sir Walter Scott. Edinburgh Zoo is located on part of the hill so don't be too surprised if you spot one or two exotic (for Scotland) animals. It's described as a gentle walk but let me tell you that parts are almost vertical. I sat there after the first climb taking oxygen in through every orifice and hoping my heart would keep going.
