Deli with a good sized restaurant attached , trying to be high end in the neighbourhood(based on the decor and presentation of food). Sadly the experience we had did not match the hypes and recommendations.
We popped in for lunch on a Saturday, the restaurant was busy. After we were seated and had ordered drinks, the waitress told us we had to wait to order food as the kitchen was busy. This was absurd as the restaurant was not even full. Later on we overheard the waitress telling other customers that one chef was down. Without any explanation to us we waited patiently for around 20 minutes before finally being able to order food.
Food turned out not really worth the wait. We had ordered the crayfish and mushroom for starters. The crayfish was covered in way too much ‘tomato mayonnaise’, the odd addition of grapefruit and mini pickles did not compliment the taste at all. The mains were even more disappointing. The pasta cooked too soft and the sauces too thin.
What disturbed us the most was the attitudes of the waitresses. In order to appear busy they all dashed around the restaurant to deliver (hot) food. At a time my son (1 year old) was playing on the floor next to us and one waitress hopped over him with hot plates in hand, without saying a word to us, never mind any apologies. This has left me in shock. I’ve dined in busy michellin restaurants and waiters never RAN to tables. In tighter spaced local eateries people tend have the decency to say ‘excuse me’ or take another route. I have no idea what this restaurant is trying to get at.
This is of course not the first time I’ve had bad food in a restaurant but I’ve definitely never felt so angry. It’s the (lack of) service that made me give this place a one star. I would have given it zero if google...
Read moreIt is some time since I last ate at Murray's but I have a good experience of both their deli and the cafe/restaurant. I came here with my wife for lunch on a tuesday. Wendy had an Aubergine dish and I had a Con Gamberi 12" pizza, - both were excellent. They were washed down with a great Sicilian house red and the sweets were fabulous too. The whole experience was good, staff, ambience, temperature. I wish I hadn't forgotten my camera because the presentation of the food was very good too. Great value for money as well. The only downside is nothing to do with Murray's, the car parking on and near Hill Road is restricted to 2 hours - that is if you can find a space. Book a table and get...
Read moreWe recently purchased two lovely hampers, full of goodies, for Father's Day and they were amazing and such good value for money. Chloe was so considerate and thoughtful too with my father's hamper; as I mentioned he suffers badly with crohn's disease. Since then we have had food delivered, to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and more recently a fish & chip supper ... both absolutely fantastic! We enjoyed in our garden with a lovely bottle of Prosecco ... and it was definitely restaurant standard food ... Well done to Murrays and thank you, especially, to Chloe who always makes us feel 'special' and valued local...
