I am currently moored up here at the Canal Basin at the end of the Coventry canal. The sun is shining, and people are wandering around looking at the boats and the old warehouses along the Dock. There is a ' Portuguese cafe / shop' with a couple of tables and chairs that I will most likely be visiting for a coffee soon as it's been recommended by a friend. There's also a very good 'Lithuanian / Baltic' grocery store, which we have used many times before. The Tin music venue ( formerly Taylor johns) has its doors open and folk are in and out. There's a list outside of upcoming music and film nights, then the sad bit.. Playwrights cafe has closed down .. that was one of coventrys best cafés (in my opinion), I believe that covid was the last straw. there's a sign that says opening soon, so who knows? Hopefully, it'll be up and running again before too long . Theres a few empty units 'to let' There's a bit of car parking in the middle and plenty of benches around the place, a nice place to chill & if i was an artist I'd try to sketch the interesting buildings and the pretty little gardens at the far end look nice to wander around. I'm looking forward to our 2...
Read moreI visited this place on a quiet Sunday, and although there weren't many people around, it was still a delightful experience to sip on a coffee while sitting by the canal. It has a cozy atmosphere, and you can truly find the perfect moment to unwind here in Coventry. Plus, it's just a short 15-minute drive from the city center. If you're interested, you can even try kayaking in the canal basin for only £5, and it's surrounded by lush greenery. You'll absolutely fall in love with this location. While it's relatively small, with space for about 10 boats, there are supermarkets within walking distance, and you'll find two convenient Polish stores right on the quayside. We enjoyed a delightful breakfast at the cafe. During our visit, it appeared that there weren't any other events happening in the canal basin, but I've heard that they do host events here. If you plan to moor your boat for a couple of days, I recommend booking online. The 5½-mile stretch from Coventry Canal Basin to Hawkesbury Junction is where the Coventry Canal connects with the Oxford Canal, making it a fascinating and picturesque...
Read moreVisited Playwrights today. Its in a really nice setting but so much more could be done in the area to make it more attractive. Some big planters with bright flowers would make it very attractive. There are hairdressers and shops there. A lovely Portuguese shop selling cakes, frozen foods, wine and more to come from this little place apparently. There are numerous buildings but you can't tell what is in them because there are no visible signs along the walkway and the glass used in the shop windows makes it difficult to see in. The area could do with some nice little boutique shops, art and craft shops, wine bar type of attraction etc. The shops also need signs that stick out at right angles so people can see whats there so that it grabs peoples attention. Come on Coventry, City of Culture spend some...
