Lady Godiva es un personaje de una leyenda medieval inglesa, (siglo XI) Era una dama anglosajona, famosa por su bondad y belleza, casada con Leofric (968-1057) señor de Coventry. Su nombre anglosajón, Godgifu o Godgyfu, quiere decir gift of God («regalo de Dios») latín Godiva. Esta dama, compadecida de los sufrimientos y apuros de sus vasallos, se solidarizó con ellos. Ella le pidió que rebajara sus impuestos. El conde accedió, pero con la condición de que ella recorriese Coventry a caballo, sin más vestidura que su largos cabellos. La dama así lo hizo, acordando con sus vecinos que estos se encerrarían en sus casas para no perturbarla en su desnudez. El día elegido Lady Godiva se paseó desnuda por el pueblo, montada en su caballo, mientras todos los vecinos de Coventry permanecían en sus casas encerrados y con las ventanas cerradas, Leofric, conmovido por el gesto de su esposa, cumplió su promesa y rebajó los impuestos.

Went here after hearing a colleague tell me the story of peeping Tom & had to find the statue of Godiva & him. Godiva was very easy to find, peeping Tom was a little further down. Apparently there are more peeping toms dotted around, so I’ll be going back to find the rest

I never knew the peeping Tom story so thanks to @jessiesydenham for educating me. I’ll have to return for the Peeping Toms. But I’ve attached my photos of Godiva. I’m not sure wether this is a true or fictional story but good on Godiva anyway! 😂

Lady Godiva is a central location for tourists & Broadgate has a lot of events going on regular. Good place to visit with restaurants for a nice drink and meal 👍
