My recent experience of Hotel Indigo Coventry was rather disappointing. In summary: comfortable room, amazing housekeeping staff, horrendous car park, super busy traffic and worst ever check-in experience at an IHG hotel. I really wanted this hotel experience to be good, unfortunately the stay didn’t leave pleasant experience . Please read below for a detailed review.
The Sunday before my stay, I received a welcoming phone call from the hotel staff, mentioning that, as I am a Platinum Elite member, they are looking forward to welcoming me to the hotel. They asked me if they could do anything in advance to ensure I have a great stay. I was pleasantly surprised with the level of service and really looked forward to the stay especially with the pre-arrival call setting a high expectation. I opted for an early check-in, and the staff on the phone assured me that this has been noted for my arrival.
My check-in experience was the worst compared to other IHG hotels, not to mention that Indigo suppose to be the upper range hotel within the IHG portfolio - in fact I was treated better at a Premier Inn stay compared to my recent stay here. The reception staff was unprofessional and dismissive of my query regarding early check-in. Without even taking my reservation detail I was hit with the most abrupt response of “no” and I was told to wait for hours at the communal area. When the room was ready at no point the staff approach me to notify that that was the case. When queried about elite members benefits, the staff has limited knowledge of their own policy and dismissive of my queries.
The room itself was spacious and comfortable. Great range of amenities offered and great powerful shower. The housekeeping staff were friendly and very helpful.
The hotel doesn’t have dedicated carpark facilities, guests are advised to park at the railway station carpark. It is a fairly new carpark, however the layout is very poor - sharp narrow turning that makes you hold your breath at every turning! There are also EV chargers available at competitive rates.
All in all I can understand that new hotel could have teething issues at the early days, however at the heart of great hospitality is a friendly & helpful staff which are lacking from the check-in experience that I had. The other key quality of a great hotel is the ability to take feedback and improve from it; when provided the above feedback through their post-stay online survey form I received the standard copy paste kind of response. If the hotel management feel that nothing to be learnt from this feedback then this defines the level of service that are acceptable for the team. As the reception staff mentioned “we are fully booked, you can try next time” I guess there’s no urgency to improve their standard as they’re fully booked anyway! One thing for sure is that this guest right here will not be...
Read moreLovely to stay in a new Indigo hotel in a great location. Think about 8th UK location being a mix of extensively refurbished older listed assets and conversions of 1960:70s office blocks. Coventry Indigo is brand new purpose built hotel within a regeneration area so not limited by previous uses and looking to establish a #1 hotel in Coventry.
Received a very warm welcome especially from Helen who recognised me from other IHG hotels in Stratford Upon Avon “SUA”) and Exeter.
All reception staff friendly and happy to go out of the was to assist.
When travelling to Indigo Coventry good to plot location on Google when driving. Coventry has a busy ring road with short acceleration/ deacceleration lanes, so having access planned as new postcode and area under development.
Parking is at the station car park adjacent. The drop off at the hotel is under construction so when finished will be easy to drop off outside and move to car park. Area is an area of redevelopment with new offices and pedestrian only route from station to City centre.
Had a drink in the bar which was also very friendly.
Breakfast was good, wonderful selection and hot to table not buffet service. Staff attentive and nice sunny day helped the ambiance looking out accross traffic’s free boulevard.
Room was comfortable, good lighting, not too dark. Slept well and room had plenty of space.
Would both use again if In Coventry on business and as a back up when SUA hotels busy. Definitely a great impression for a new Indigo in which clearly a lot of thought has gone into...
Read moreI have stayed in many hundreds of hotels for possibly thousands of nights and I have never in any experience in a hotel or a restaurant encountered this.
My wife ordered a simple meal of a battered, buttermilk chicken, burger, and receive something, which you can see in the photos below was burned, and tasted burned. Even in a McDonald’s it would’ve been replaced, but for some unknown bizarre reason the chef sent it back to my wife, who had returned it because it was burned and told her to eat it or else she would go to the bottom of the queue to get it replaced!!!
I already suspect that some people don’t believe what I’ve just written, but it is true. They did not care enough about my wife’s experience, and you can make your own mind up about whether or not it was burnt from photos below, to sacrifice a two or three quid piece of chicken for her overall experience.
This was real shame because apart from the chef and the server, everything had been pretty good and would certainly have had a four star or five star review across the board. However, it is important that the management of and the investors in this particular hotel know that they have an absolutely appalling, uniquely terrible chef.
Everybody knows that you can burn a burger - accidents happen in a kitchen, but to actually send it back and argue with the customer is amazing.
Anyway, make your...
