I happened upon Coventry's own Cosy Club without knowing what to expect, at least beyond peering up at the terrace at what promised to be synthetically warm ambiance, one with an overwhelming mist of luxury which beckons and intimidates. By the end of my evening, I had concluded that the ambiance is all that you are paying for.
From greeting to eating, formality was king. As such, I would certainly recommend this restaurant to any Patrick Bateman enthusiasts; while I was dining there, there were such an abundance of overly enthused staff that anyone could look like they owned the place. I mustered all of my strength not to flinch, as whenever I turned around to admire the ersatz-grandiose interior, which comes with the £30 a head experience, a waiter would race to the table like a child who is for some reason excited to hear their next chore (probably to get mummy and/or daddy a cocktail in this case).
Similarly, food only comes in shanks, whole fish and pricy but plain pasta bowls at Cosy Club. I chose pan-fried bass, which came on a base of oddly over-peppered and yet bland kale and tomato 'sauce' - I quote here because I have an odd feeling that it was poured from the same saucepan as was my bloody-mary (not that I'd recommend this combination - my bad). Sadly the sauce turned out to be the dominant ingredient - two or three measly new potatoes and a small seabass fillets were certainly in proportion to each other but not to the 'sauce'. I understand that this main is meant to leave room to explore the menu, but I does not provide the motivation to do so.
I have made my final rating independent of price - if you want to fork out £30 on fairly basic food presented fairly cleanly then that is you mistake to make. Having said this, the dining experience is perfect for a niche of occasions, and I am glad to have gone exactly once.
Get the bloody mary,...
Read moreGreat tasting food, definitely big portions and the price is relatively reasonable considering. We hadn't been to cosy club for a very long time perhaps 6 years or so. The food wasn't as good as it tastes now, the service has improved, there are some areas for improvement although understandable during busy periods.
In our group of 4 we had a kids meal, vegan breakfast, a Spanish chicken and a dirty chicken burger.
The wife wanted salmon but they had none, then we found out immediately that they also have no fish cake so resorted to the chicken option. I'm not one to calorie count for me the more the better, however the portion size on the food was great, a little too big for me as I couldn't finish it. But for most people this would hit the spot.
The food took a while to arrive we waited about 30 minutes, so definitely get your drinks in to make up for the time.
The food tasted great, we had no complaints. The lady serving us was professional and attentive to our group, the service in getting the food and paying the bill were the slowest parts. Considering we had a few places to go, I would say though the restaurant isnt exactly fast food per say, so do bear this in mind for the waiting time. However I still feel it can be improved.
Overall a good experience with some improvements it could lead to being great. Would still recommend if you dont have a time...
